This is a media player that will playback the audio streamed by PulseAudio's simple protocol module.

The idea is to watch videos from XBMC running on Ubuntu, but with the audio on an Android phone.

For Window's users, a utility has been published on github that will allow the same functionality.

Please see much more documentation at the app's website http://kaytat.com/simple_protocol_player.

Works pretty well! I like to use it to hear audio from my HTPC when I can't bother my neighbours. There are no dropouts on my network though a stable connection is necessary. Sometimes it just randomly looses connection though and the audio stops playing.

I use this app everyday. It's nice to be able to listen to my Linux PC while having my earbuds paired to my phone. I can still get phone notifications and can take phone calls. Also, earbuds always pairing to phone is convenient.

Thank you so much. It actually interacts properly with the linux ecosystem and doesn't try to steal my money. (I'd suggest setting a much higher buffer if you just want stutter free music though.)

If you know what this simple app is intended for, you'll understand why it's freaking awesome. I honestly never thought I'd really have a reason to make use of pulseaudio's ability to create and use a TCP network sink... yet here we are.

I replaced pulseaudio with pipewire and streaming still works flawlessly. however when my phone scrren is off the app stops after a while despite whitelisting its battery usage on my Samsung Galaxy Note 8.

I'm so glad it is available for free, without ads. Easy to connect to linux with pipewire/pulse.
