It's always a bit stressful on graduation day. The uncertainty of the future, the excitement of endless possibilities, and of course getting blown out of the sky by a weapon that should no longer exist. Welcome to Earth in the 24th century."Nuclear Powered Toaster" is a 160,000 word interactive sci-fi novel by Matt Simpson, where your choices control the story. It's entirely text-based—without graphics or sound effects—and fueled by the vast, unstoppable power of your imagination.
Humanity is a pale shadow of its former glory after two nuclear wars and living under the constant threat of orbital attack. You…won't really be able to change any of that, but if you play your cards right, you might just live to see another sunrise, and possibly even unravel a sinister plan!
• Play as smuggler Alexi Beaumont, or superpowered government agent Fiorella Branford for two distinct experiences.
• Meet new and interesting people on Duck Mountain, and try not to be incinerated by them!
• Team up with a henchman, an actor, or the solar system's oddest janitor.
• Uncover a global conspiracy and bring down a mysterious terrorist...if you can.
• Resolve situations with wits, force, or just harness the erratic power of pure insanity.
• Endeavor to keep on good terms with your comrades, or risk turning an ally into an enemy!
Comedy, action, and a pinch of absurdity await those who board the Nuclear Powered Toaster!

I actually purchased this book. This story has two different playable characters with unique stories. The only real flaw with this game is that the plot is more linear than other choose your adventure books and there are not many endings. It's a good game to play twice given the two unique characters. Excellent world building and written well with a good plot. This story also has a great deal of humor which I appreciated. It's a decent read.

This game absolutely defeats the purpose of a choose your own adventure game. If I wanted to read a story with a premade main character, I would just read a book. I play games like this so I can choose to play as whomever I want and create the story as I go. Absolutely not worth playing as there are plenty of other hosted games that actually have choices.

I don't understand why many reviewers criticised this game so harshly. I personally found this interactive fiction pretty decent. The characters are lovable and memorable. Sure, we can't choose the names for the two main protagonists of this story, but this game still fulfills the criteria for an interactive fiction.

I've only played the demo, which failed to interest me. The fact that I wasn't given a choice to make my own character messed stuff up too, which begs the question of why did the developer bother making character statistics? If you're going to force us to use a pre-made character, then just set the stats for that character, or remove them completely.

For those who insist Interactive Fiction is CYOA, research will show that traditional CYOA like Lone Wolves and Duel Masters are all designed in the fashion of pre-made characters, hence Nuclear Power Toaster is following the true spirit of CYOA . As a choice Interactive Fiction, even with pre-made characters, Nuclear Power Toaster still give us enough choices on how we proceed with the journey of these characters, and how we build up the personality of them.. Over all the story is well written and intriguing with multiple lovable interactive characters who I actually care, including the villains .. There are multiple endings that will give a satisfactory closure but also leave a possibility for a sequel.. I hope there will be sequel since I am looking forward to rekindle relationship with potential Romance interest in the story :😉

This game has it's moments but really just seems to thrive on constantly reminding you how unimportant your character is. I mean, I'm supposed to be some hardcore bad ass, spec-ops with a 30% strength but a simple minded custodian does better in have m hand to hand then me? So what is my purpose? To witness an electrician and maid save the world er something?

The preset chars didn't turn me off from playing this. If it means a change from the usual blank slate IF PC, then why not? And that humor, Deadpool would approve. It's something that could crack me up. Good pacing though no romance yet available. But hey, I saved that villain for the part two. Insane and psychopath mix well you see.

I would give this a chance and maybe even like it if it wasn't for the fact that you can only choose to play as an already planned male and female - only characters. You can't even change the names. So I'm guessing there might not be ro's either, but I don't know cause I didn't play the whole thing. The whole point of these games is CHOICES, you choose who you wanna be and who you wanna pursue, and what kind of character you wanna become.
