(Update) It's better than it used to be, but I keep finding little issues that other apps don't have. For example, even if I've locked my screen so it doesn't auto-rotate, this app insists on doing so, making it harder to read while lying down.

I left the New York Times over their right leaning news coverage and opinion pieces. The Globe offered a trial deal and now here I am enjoying every page.

Ads Ads And more Ads. It would be one thing if I was accessing your content for free. But I am a paying subscriber. There used to be a few ads on the home page of the app. Now there are 3 or 4 ads embedded within each and every article. Many of these ads are of the annoying video variety that is incredibly distracting when trying to read an article.

Far too much sports coverage and no way to prioritize news. If you don't care about sports, just recognize you're buying a sports app. Also, they changed the way you scroll horizontally across grouped articles to a button and not a scrolling motion. This means that if you use the expected scrolling motion, instead of moving to the next article, you move to a separate section of the app. For example, from general news to Metro news. Non standard scrolling makes the app very frustrating.

They launched the new app, but it's broken. That's fine, I can wait for it to be fixed. So I opened my browser, loaded the website version, and tapped on a story. Instead of showing me the story, it opened the app and tried to open the story there. But the app is broken. So now I've uninstalled the app, and I can actually read the stories in the browser. Why shoot yourself in just one foot when you can shoot both, right?

Kinda sorta works but doesn't always. 😢 Had high hopes for the new app; as other people mentioned, doesn't work very well. Doesn't consistently render articles, doesn't consistently show icons for Share (have reported this), doesn't consistently display when using Dark Mode, etc. Too frustrating, so uninstalling. Doesn't seem like it was developed by mature developers with good coding practices and rigorous testing.

When you tap on a article in the app and you start reading the article, the app tries to download an advertisement in the article and that freezes the app. This has caused my phone to lock itself and flashed a security alert that unauthorized software was downloaded . I had to go to the phone store where I puchased the phone to get it unlocked. This would be a great app if only there was no advertisements in the articles that I try to read.
