I'm giving "Chess Opener" one star because it simply doesn't work as advertised. Imported opening files consistently disappear after some time. This isn't a new issue either, I encountered the same problem years ago and received no response when I emailed the developer. Clearly user support is non existent, and this app is a waste of money.

So far, this looks like the best chess opening app I have tried. My needs are simple: a premium app that lets me buy it once and not pay a monthly fee, the ability to add any openings I want to practice, and a non-annoying interface that preferably allows customization. If it has a built in database and engine, that makes it basically perfect. This one has all of those things, so great! My only wish is for more theme customization, since I am not a fan of the colors. Still, it works fine for me!

Pros: Single payment, affordable price. User-friendly simple interface. Reasonable opening database. Access to GM repertoire. ~~~ Cons: Very slow engine analysis; very frustrating, you'll need to export the position to a different app to run analysis. Cannot edit the variations after imported. No visual animation or coloured arrows. Large app >105MB.

Chess opener pro is a very useful application for training chess openings especially custom made ones. This will not work for puzzles and other custom positions. Interface is simple and easy to use. Can choose depth of opening. Can check with inbuilt chess engines for finding out the best moves and lines. Training progress is visible for refreshing memory of openings. All together very useful application for learning openings with lots of variations in a pleasant systamatic way.

This is a simple repertoire app with a wide range of import options. Professional and high quality interface. Variations cannot be edited after import, but this is OK. Found a bug with the renaming opening/variation dialog, it crashes if you save a variation with no name and won't let you in again. Despite this, the app is enjoyable to use, and has the ability to play white/black/both without importing twice (unlike other apps like 'Chess Openings Pro').This is my favourite openings app! 4*

Every now & then, you find a true gem on the play store. Like others, I didn't want to spend a monthly fee so really appreciate a low cost one off instead. I searched all through the play store for a spaced repetition opening trainer where I could upload a pgn & have to say this one is not only the best I could find, but it's surpassed all of my expectations. Fantastic app - well worth a 5 star rating.

May be complete and the best but it need, a sharing button, and the possibility to adjust the engine, and at last a looking for games in the same position, good job, but now only 3 stars, it very convivial application and we realy progress... but the take a long time... it get a huge database, may be i m so exigent.

I purchased the pro one after evaluating the light version. The apps provide excellent opening database. What seems the only drawback is that it's takes too long when I have to use engine to search some variations. If this problem/issues solve, I will surely recommend to my other chess Trainer to use this apps. Tq
