I realized that you should restart the board after the firmware update or else it's super buggy. The app still has minor bugs to iron out, such as the battery level indicator that's inaccurate. The update button should confirm whether the board is up to date or not. I hope to see further enhancements in the future in terms of user interface and features. So far it is playable with the app, it just takes some time to get used to it even though it's not perfect. This has much potential ahead.

I won't rate harshly because I get it is a work in progress. Also I'm a casual chess player, so cannot speak to the AI quality or chess service integration. That said, these are the areas that need improving: - Maintaining board synchronisation. Often the app will display the hints on touching a piece, but the board LEDs won't mirror this. - No checkers support - adding the checkers pieces doesn't change the board mode. - The chess icons shouldn't scale with the device's font size settings.

Currently not very usable at all. App won't sync well with the board, so if a move is made on the board and the app doesn't sync, it will throw off the game completely to where the AI is making bad choices to reflect what it thinks is on the board. Trying to fix this just causes more issues, and there isn't a way to properly end a game in progress, so it results in just turning off the app and the board. Board by itself is good, app is struggling badly in this current state

It's a start for an app/product that was kickstarted, definitely in need of app improvements to be long term value imho. Here's what I see to help: -Bluetooth with phone fails to keep connected to the board if you change hint levels mid game via the app (current solution: go out of game and back in) -Another hint color: There's a HUGE difference between Blunder and Inaccuracy, making level 4 the one to use instead of 6 -Ability to change hint for OTB opponent in app -Piece recognition (ideal)

Despite updating firmware and calibrating the board on a sturdy flat surface, the app often freezes (as does the ChessUp board, incidentally). Update: After a few more days with the board, my opinion is worse. The board often won't connect to wifi and we have phones, tablets, game systems, e-readers, computers, etc, which all work fine - the Chessup board has thus far waisted a lot of my time and been little more than a headache. Support is meager. Buyer beware!

Caveat emptor!!, released before development was complete, board great but features don't work without the app, which needs an overhaul, once the computer made an illegal move instead of getting out of check, another time would not allow a knight to take a piece, the square would not light up at all for a clearly legal move for the win!, in summation, the app simply doesn't work, but at least can be updated, hopeful that the purchase will not be total waste of time and $ for a mediocre product.

Currently pretty much unusable, despite the newest 1.6.3 firmware. Quite a shame after such a long waiting time to not get the basic functionality right... for such an expensive product. Let's hope it can get fixed and will be fixed soon. I literally cannot use it at the moment as the board is not properly recognizing the positions

I'd like to say good things, but, so far I haven't been able to get it to play online at all. I press the random game and nothing changes. No indication of searching for a game or not. No indication of finding a game. No indication of what it is doing at all or if something is wrong. Very annoyed. The logout button doesn't seem to do anything. I thought it was supposed to save game played on the board, but, so far, no.
