De NOS TV App is vernieuwd! Met de NOS live app hebben we het kijken naar livestreams nog eenvoudiger gemaakt. Naast zo'n 500 livestreams per jaar van nieuws, sport en nationale evenementen vind je uitgebreide programma-informatie van livestreams die er aan komen en kun je tijdens een live-uitzending via momenten eenvoudig belangrijke momenten terugkijken. Bovendien kunnen de laatste uitzendingen van het NOS Journaal, het NOS Jeugdjournaal, Nieuwsuur en het NOS Sportjournaal teruggekeken worden.

Until recently (the laste few weeks) this app was prima, 5 stars, but now it does not work with the app switcher. Every time I press the app switcher to go to a different open app, NOS shuts down, and I have to restart from the home screen. The same thing happens when I try to translate a word using Google Translate. I have uninstalled & reinstalled and rebooted several times. I would like my 5 star app back. 19 Nov: Gerepareerd! This news organisation can't deliver on its promise: Most of its coverage is not blindly supportive of theocretic, totalitarian regimes. Whenever they support these causes, it's always countered by a small editorial note that most people will never read. Luckily, the auto-play feature of videos will let everybody in the bus know that I too support everything rotten in the world, so at least the app offers me that.

I used to love this app, but I'm less than impressed about the NOS' implementation of video news items (once they're out of the most recent news feed they show up under a general 'video' header without any reference to the original article or, occasionally, without any context at all) and more recently and more regrettably, the addition of advertising. Update: just tried to play a video, got 3 (!!!) different ads lasting about 2 minutes, and then the actual video would not play. Terrible!

Okay app, Okay news quality and depth. The NOS articles are often simple (albeit sloppy) bits of information. It pushes somewhat poor writing to ride hype trains. Quality seems less important than speed here, because the articles then get hidden updates during the day. Nieuwsuur bits which are mixed in have better content. There is no way to filter out uninteresting topics (e.g. sports). However, the app is clean and doesn't come with a loud and chaotic visual design or any ads.

Who is responsible for this update? To see a specific sport you have to scroll down 3-4 screens in the NOS Sport section and look for, what feels like, a hidden menu? (Ugly looking rectangle buttons) Even if you filter in 'latest', which cost alot of clicks to get where you want to go, you can't see the agenda/statistics/etc of the specific sport..

Mediocre app. Fair and efficient design, legible, easily navigable. Does what it needs to, but won't be good for long. Just about every update removes options for customizability. Also, the news widget features sooooooo much sports news, despite my choosing the non-sports widget. The widget also doesn't update now and then and lacks a 'jump to top' or 'refresh' button. Could be so much better. I'd love a widget you can completely cater to your own desires.

I won't talk about the news itself in this review, just the actual app. The app works smoothly and is fast. The design is good and you have a nice overview of the news. Videos in the app often warrant 2 or 3 ads of 30 seconds total. This is fine, if it is covering hosting costs. However it is not fine if the video itself is only a minute long. The app does not work well with VPNs which is a huge flaw if you ask me, it refuses to load when I'm connected to a Dutch VPN server with NordVPN.

The app is responsive, dark mode, and it's easy to disable the so many notifications. After configuration it does give me descent news. It would be better if it had some more filter options to exclude for example the videoposts, and flashback/old news articles. It got some widget options, but none that are useful for me, would be easy to add a some more, for example traffic info widget.
