If you already have a paper subscription to Essence this app doesn't provide enhanced content. It's an alternate subscription where electronic issues can be paid for, through the app, on a month-to-month or yearly basis. Unlike other apps of this type that are available through Google Play this one actually works. There's a small discount for subscribing electronically versus receiving paper copies.

I have a one year subscription to essence magazine. I downloaded the app and was able to see the first magazine from my subscription. The second magazine came to my home and I also got the notification that it was available in the app, but when I click on the magazine, it comes up with options to purchase the magazine, a 6 mos subscription or a 12 mos subscription. It will not allow me to view the digital copy. It only allows me to see the very first magazine in my subscription. FIX IT PLEASE!!

I subscribed to both the digital and paper versions, but I'm only getting the paper copy. I emailed CS about this because the March/April issue will NOT load and it's almost May!

If I could I would give it less than one star. So far I have received a tote bag and a letter asking to resubscribe. BUT NO MAGAZINE!!! I have yet to receive my first issue! I have written and requested my first issued I have yet to receive a response from Essence.
