The platform is envisaged to provide scalable farmer-facing services to small-scale producers (SSPs), supported by a backend data stack with SSP data provided by diverse partners. The platform, once operational, will provide customized, climate-smart content and services and improved linkages with agriculture ecosystem players and include public, private, and non-profit service providers.
Key design principles for the DFS Platform are:
(1) Design with the user (women & men SSP) centricity: The channels and service will be designed, keeping the farmers (especially women SSPs) at the core through a human-centric design (HCD) approach.

(2) Privacy-by-Design: The system will maintain transparent and traceable consent management. The data will be collected on a need basis and will be shared on a need-to-know basis. The access to data will be provided to authorized personnel and entities with end-to-end security.

(3) Security-by-Design: The platform will be designed with adequate security measures built-in for secured data access and conformance to data protection and information security guidelines. User authentication, role-based access, and data exchange with authenticated and authorized sources will be ensured.

(4) Collaborative Stack: The platform will use open-source technology to avoid vendor lock-in. The Open APIs will enable other ecosystem players to reuse, extend, & create solutions for farmers. Access to the data (in a controlled manner) will be provided for better outreach/services to Farmers.


(5) Strategic Automation: The platform will support simplified, integrated processes with workflows and rules-driven automation, artificial intelligence/analytics for actionable intelligence and informed decision-making. Being SSP-centric in approach, the learnability aspect for different interfaces will be considered before including automation at any level. This also includes appropriate manual intervention by design.

(6) Unified Platform: The platform will be designed to act as a one-stop solution for all the needs of SSPs, including the features and capabilities from both the demand and supply side. The platform-based approach will allow entrepreneurs and startups to create innovative solutions as per the needs of stakeholders.

(7) ‘Once-only’ Principle: There are multiple initiatives by governments and private players with various data sets available as part of those applications. The platform will feed on and link already curated data (like ADIDAAS, BIHAN, and DLMS) to avoid duplication of information.

(8) Cloud-first approach: The platform will be designed keeping the public cloud computing and services in mind. Cloud environment features like availability zones, auto-scaling, pay-as-you-go, etc., will allow the progressive and adaptive need of the business functionalities.

(9) Interoperability: To allow the seamless exchange of data with different government platforms, open networks like (ONDC and OCEN), partner platforms, and interconnect with proven innovations, services, products, and channels, interoperability and transformation capabilities will be built from the initial phase. The platform will inherently have all the capabilities (APIs, Data Feeds, Data Streams, and so on) to integrate with and operate in the current Agri-ecosystem of Bihar.

(10) Adaptive Approach: The platform will be designed to progressively load the features without disrupting the running business and onboard / de-board providers without discontinuing business capability. Adaption of FAIR / Other standards as defined by Government of India.
