There is some confusion, because the old "Android TV Remote" and other 3rd party apps will no longer work once you update this and Gboard. You must use the "Google TV" app as a remote after the update. The new remote is great, although it could use a few small features added to keep the remote connected to the last TV you were connected to, or even better use UWB to auto-connect to the closest Google TV device if the phone has it! The bad reviews on here are all due to this split. I think there should be a new app made with a different appid that continues support for older apps simultaneously with this one to avoid that.

I have five Google TV devices in the house, with four of those in my bar area (I watch a lot of different sports there). Can easily switch from TV to TV and control that particular TV. Volume doesn't work with the TV that has the Bohm sound bar but works on a verity of manufacturers that I have. Use to have four remotes lined up in front of me, but I have put them away and just use my Samsung phone.

Something terrible went wrong !!! After applying the update to my Sony TV, the app on my android phone stopped connecting to the TV. So, I thought this app on my phone may have got corrupted. So, I tried clearing cache, data ... and when that did not help. I uninstalled the app from my phone to install it again ... Guess what, now the app in play store does not even appear for my phone !!! On the google play site, it shows as not compatible for my phone !!! Now I am stuck !! Is there any workaround ?

Last update didn't work at all.. After update removed all work well. In description of app - "Works with all Android TV devices." But now this application inform that it is not compatible with my phones and tablets. I checked it comparability with a friend phone and get same thing that is not available. But app inform that it available for my Android TV devices.

Stopped working with all android TV apps after update. Terrible. I don't have physical remote and now I can't use my TV because Google didn't think of backwards compatibility and is forcing everyone to use their new Google TV app, which hasn't even launched in my country yet.

remote app stopped working after upgrading this services app on the Sony TV. Remote just kept flashing on the phone screen. Tried to remove the actual google remote app on the phone and reinstall but the remote app is not showing in the google store any more.

If there’s a Zero rate I would’ve chosen a fat ZERO! This version breaks all remotes. Won’t connect any form of mobile android remote. Once I uninstalled it, everything worked fine again. AVOID AT ALL COST!

They updated the Android TV Remote app, and now it wont run on my phone. It shows it is not compatible with my devices at all to install on other devices.
