The latest version, as of Nov 2024, still has frequent audio playback freezes that requires closing and restarting to function again. Love WNYC, but so frustrating that they can't seem to get a reliably functional app out.

App is unstable since android 15 on my pixel 7Pro. Screen jumps up and down, reloads constantly, scrolling bounces back even while my finger is on the screen, audio freezes after 5 minutes and won't restart. Totally unusable.

Update: I have now tried the updated version, and it's unfortunately getting an even lower rating than before. With the old version, at least I could easily restart the stream after it randomly cut out. Now it still randomly cuts out, but when I try restarting it, it just "plays" absolute silence! (Old review for posterity: Love the station, but the app is glitchy and keeps shutting off for no reason when I'm listening.)

I am a sustaining member of WNYC, and I listen regularly even though I moved from the NY area 8 years ago. However, I hate this app. I use it on a Samsung Galaxy S8. The feed stops every 30 minutes. And, as others have mentioned, you have to listen to an ad when you refresh the app and resume listening. Totally annoying! The problem does not occur on my iPad, interestingly enough.

Great app... If only it didn't constantly freeze, crash, and generally work like craps. I've been a financial supporter of the station for over 15 years. Why do they do this to us???? Put out one malfunctioning app after another? 10/1/2019 Update: I was able to use it relatively problem free on my Samsung Galaxy 8. But now that I upgraded to a Samsung Note 10, it's pretty much useless again. Plays for about 20 seconds and stops, no matter what I do. Updated the app, still keeps stopping!

The updated app is awful. It has crashed four times in the last 20 minutes of this listening session. Since I updated it a couple days ago, that's been the average. It just stops playing the livestream and you have to hit play again. Very annoying when you're listening hands free! I'm reading your responses to other year-old reviews, touting the update. The previous version didn't crash nearly as much for me - maybe once every 2-3 hours. This new version is nearly unusable now though.

Developers are not paying attention to feedback! The app keeps crashing, very frustrating in the middle of an article of interest. Add to this the fact that each time you need to restart it you must listen to the same add again. I am not the first user to point this out, and other users have been pointing out this issue for months, but nobody seems to be reading the feedback. Last message from developers was in January 2021. Forget it, I will un-install and use the browser based app instead.
