It's now the ONLY one of my six news apps that doesn't support dark mode. The help page admits it's a very highly demanded function; it has been for years, and the app seems to have been reskinned from the ground up twice in that time, so it would've been trivial to implement. Apparently the iOS version supports it, so it's not like the editorial content would pose problems. No, the fact that this elementary function is missing can only mean the product managers are either arrogant or clueless.

The core app us good but, unfortunately, the widget is now pretty useless, and that was my main way into the app. Now, when you press on a story, it just opens the app, and, half the time, you can't find the article you were particularly interested in. That's a frustration and I'll probably disable the widget soon if it does not get fixed. I have a number of news apps from around the world, and I certainly use much more ones that have widgets.

I'm loathe to leave a negative review as I see the importance of the ABC as an unbiased public news source. I really feel that the updated app (Dec 24) is a step backwards in accessibility. While the UI is freshened, there is far less flexibility to tailor news now, especially without creating an account. Please consider bringing back the my news section, with the option to select topics of interest. (I miss the good news topic)

I don't like the new update. I used to be able to easily access local news, now it shows me local news with bits of other news spread within. It's not as used friendly and I find myself spending more time trying to find relevant news though analysis etc than reading the news. Such a shame as it was such a trustworthy news app.

No Find In Page option! Don't reorient your phone from portrait to landscape (or vice versa) as this pathetic app then loses its place and sends you right back to the top of the page. And FFS don't reorient your device while playing a video either, as it spits the dummy completely, taking you to a random page - what fun! Oh and there's no History function, so you'll handily never be able to easily find even the very last article you were reading, lord forbid something from yesterday. UNINSTALL!

Each update produces a worse user experience. There needs to be an option for all or no photos besides each story. The layout wastes too much space, means lots of scrolling to see anything. There should at least be a "compact view" option.

Used to like the app, but the new version is horrible. New layout takes up so much space. Lost the ability to choose which topics I want to follow and instead get what ABC thinks I want, which I don't.

Since the last format change, I'm seeing an emphasis on Stories rather than News - sort of defeats the purpose of using a news app. It's harder to get a sense of what the top news items are now since the new format jumbles the topics - Human Rights proceeds Gambling. Then it's COVID-19 and then Disaster Relief, which can lead onto Stabbings, Birds and finally Nuclear Energy. My own experience is now less engagement rather than more, followed sadly by a search of alternative news sites....
