Het noorderlicht (of noorderlicht) is een spectaculair natuurverschijnsel dat af en toe aan de nachtelijke hemel boven Groot-Brittannië te zien is. Eenmaal gezien, wordt het nooit vergeten. Met Aurora Watch UK kunt u geomagnetische activiteit volgen en laat u weten wanneer aurora KAN zichtbaar zijn vanuit Groot-Brittannië.Ontvang waarschuwingen over toenames in geomagnetische activiteit - geactiveerd wanneer het AuroraWatch-statusniveau verandert; dit geeft de relatieve waarschijnlijkheid aan van het waarnemen van aurora in Groot-Brittannië.

Aurora Watch is GEEN voorspellingsapp.
Telefooninstellingen zoals Batterijbesparing, die beperken dat de telefoon pushmeldingen ontvangt, zullen het aurora-waarschuwingsvenster verkleinen of zelfs sluiten.
Als u geen waarschuwingen ontvangt, controleer dan de Instellingen/Meldingen/App-instellingen van uw telefoon om te zien of Meldingen voor Aurora Watch UK niet zijn uitgeschakeld.
De app waarschuwt niet historisch. Als uw telefoon uitstaat of geen verbinding kan maken met internet terwijl de status omhoog gaat, maar het niveau weer daalt vóór de volgende gegevensupdate, ontvangt u geen waarschuwing.
Er is een noodzakelijke vertraging voordat waarschuwingen worden verzonden, aangezien de gegevens moeten worden 'gestabiliseerd', zoals aanbevolen door Lancaster University.
De waarschuwingen van Lancaster University hebben de neiging om standaard hun Lancaster-magnetometer te gebruiken voor waarschuwingen, hoewel ze wel andere hebben; vooral één in Shetland. Natuurlijk is er een grotere kans om een Aurora in Shetland te zien, maar aangezien die gegevens (meestal) niet worden gebruikt, zijn waarschuwingen iets 'pessimistischer'. Dit is geschikt voor degenen onder ons die in Engeland wonen, maar minder voor degenen die verder naar het noorden wonen.
De Aurora Watch UK (Android) app is ontwikkeld en wordt onderhouden door Smallbouldering Projects, het is geen 'officiële' app.

Useful in theory, but it has to be manually refreshed and never gives alert notifications (even with all settings enabled). || Edit to reply: it's not straight away; I've had the app since May. I read the FAQ and tested settings before reviewing. Today I tried enabling 'test alert', and after receiving it, the app started refreshing itself -- but still didn't alert me when activity pipped over the threshold (amber) later on in the day.

A bit disappointed. I can't vouch for the accuracy of the app per se. I have had multiple red alerts come in on clear nights and have seen nothing. I feel that the traffic light system is far too simplistic to cover the whole uk and doesn't really correlate to what is seen on the map page.

Great app for alerts to spot the aurora and has netted me a few. Would be nice if there was a customisable threshold as being down South I'd set higher than red. Anyway, still a great app thanks! EDIT - picking up on other comments, you really need to go thorough app and battery settings to switch off ALL battery optimisation & sleep to get alerts. This app will go for a long time with no user interaction if the sun is quiet and most phones will try to sleep the app, which means no alerts...

Great app. Although the aroura is not always visible by naked eye when there is a red alert, it can usually always be seen through camera. I've been notified of several arouras that I wouldn't have known about without this app. The alert mode is also very good as it never fails to wake me up and make me jump.

I have it set to amber alerts but did not receive an alert yesterday (10/10/24). It skipped from green at 3pm to red at 4pm, this seems like a bug? It should still send out an alert even if there's no amber if it jumps to red. I missed the aurora which is frustrating since it's the whole purpose of the app.

I can't vouch for the apps accuracy, as I've not seen an Aurora yet (even when on red alert), but do we have to have almost constant notifications, saying the exact same level of alert? The last three I've had, have all said the exact same message, it's amber.....

Compact and minimalistic app. Does not need annoying permissions. Kudos for that. Notifications need improvement. I got notification at 18:00 that there is minor geomagnetic activity at 17:00. That's like missing it and rubbing it in.5 Minus 1 stars till notifications are improved. Edit: The timezone of timings needs to be specified if it is BST or UTC. Since this app is meant for UK it ought to be BST or else follow the timezone on the device where app is installed.

Really useful app! Updates frequently (every few minutes) and you can review geomagnetic levels from over the course of the day. The alert function is great, I like that you can choose to be alerted at different levels. Also appreciate that the app asks for very few device permissions (just notifications I think), is transparent about why these are needed, and doesn't require you to provide any personal data.
