In the 80's, I watched my late father play Football Manager on the C64. He was eternally glued to the game almost every waking hour. I only ever got to play it now and again. Now I'm the same age as he was back then, I see why he was addicted. Faithfully recreated, the masterpiece that launched an entire genre is as good as ever! Despite playing more complex games through the years, most have never been this good! Its quick-fire simplicity and one more game loop is impossible to put down!

Purchased this on my Spectrum, then my C64, my iPad, and now, on my Android phone. This is, without a doubt, one of the GREATEST GAMES ever written, and has spawned an entire industry by itself. No ads, no distractions, no excel sheets to manage your players, just the pure choice of balancing player skill and fitness levels. Simple. Effective. Astoundingly addictive. I have only two small gripes with the game when playing on a phone. The players are barely visible. Perhaps they are too small. The other is more of a nostalgia thing. 8-bit chunky fonts please! Other than these small (personal) options, there is nothing to add. Superb.

Downloaded to pass the time on a long coach journey but also to revive memories of the mid 80's on my ZX Spectrum playing this fantatstic game. Nothing has changed too much, easy to pick up and play and hasn't sacrificed any of the simplicity which made it the game it was all those years ago. Well played Mr Toms! Right, back to it now for me - 3 seasons in and 2 promotions later- I'm just one promotion away from the big time! 😉

Heard your interview on the retro hour podcast. Nice port of the game. Barely remember playing this back in the day. Had football director, which was more or less a ripoff of this. It would be nice to have a retire function so you can get a rundown on all the players you managed, goals scored, seasons played, games played. That sort of thing.

What can I say? I used to play this game on my Spectrum until my eyes were bleeding. This is that game! For those of a certain age this is a glorious walk down memory lane to simpler times. The game is just as much fun now as it was then. For the younger ones, well there are technically better football management games out there, but always remember they might not exist if it wasn't for this one. 5 star awesomeness from me, any chance of FM2? That one made me go temporarily blind!

I feel for the author, all negative reviews are from people brought up on high end systems. They need to realise this is how games were back in the 80's, it's all we had, and at the time it was absolutely everything. This has brought back so many amazing memories, and the frustration of a player missing countless open goals when he should score blindfolded with both feet tied together is as high on the scale as it was back then - but its the same for both teams 😁 Cheers, Kevin!

I still have the spectrum tape of this game. I just sort of kept it as it gave me so much joy and frustration back then. I remember my best mate had the c64 version and we would be forever comparing which was the best. one issue I have is that when the match is in progress the volume control on my phone becomes unresponsive,so can't adjust sound level. any plans for the world cup edition?.Maybe as DLC ?. thanks.

I found this completely by accident! And what a brilliant surprise it was!! Mr Toms, I met you many, many moons ago at a computer fair. I pre-ordered the C64 version of Football Manager directly from you there. I was so excited when I finally received it in the post, and spent many hours playing it. I've just fired up this new version, and it's still got the "just one more game" addictiveness that the original had. What a great job you've done remaking this game, thank you so much! One minor suggestion, on my Galaxy S9+ the players during the highlights are tiny, any chance of making them a tad bigger in a future release?
