This is fairly typical as a newspaper app and is mostly OK. But I can't use the crossword feature because the bottom of the keyboard is outside the frame. ETA: I was still using a very old Android version when posting this, and I thought that might be causing the issue. But I recently got a new phone running v13, and the bug is still happening. To be fair I see the same issue in apps from the NYT and SF Chronicle, and I don't get why such a pervasive bug hasn't been addressed.

How is there no "night mode"? Clearly someone thought through the required color scheme, as it's in place if you click on the "Settings" icon in the top right-hand corner. When clicking on their lead article (while I was already logged-in to the app), I was prompted to login again as though I were using a web browser. How does a newspaper with the 4th largest circulation in the U.S. have such a mediocre app? It's jaw-dropping when compared with the apps for WaPo or the NYT.

I'm a paid subscriber and am logged in to my account in the app. However the download feature (for reading offline) doesn't with and hasn't worked for months. It shows either 0% or an infinite spinner. The edition is never downloaded. I tried: force stop, uninstall/reinstall, clear cache, clear data, and anything else I could think of, several times, but it still never works. I have 87GB free storage on the phone so it's not out of space.

I like the app, I use it all the time. My biggest complaint is with regards to Saved Stories. It looks like Saved Stories are saved on the local device, because when I changed to a new phone and installed the app, the Saved Stories weren't there. Also, the Saved Stories aren't accessible from the main website. There should be better integration between the app and the LA Times website, like the NY Times app & site.

The news is fine -- although I would prefer more weekly delivery options for digital only. The deal breaker is still having ads even though I pay for a subscription. This is absolutely not acceptable. Period. Companies seem to think the problem is targeted ads vs non-targeted ads and "protecting user data". No! The problem is advertising itself when I already pay with my wallet! This is entirely user hostile and exactly why LA Times has such high turnover for digital subscriptions.

The Times is obviously great reporting. The app is terrible. When I try to open push notifications, it routes me through a browser, which then demands to know my subscription info to then take me to the app, which has me saved as a subscriber. Also, the sections on the app are too limited - for example, there's no Covid section, line the NYT - which partly makes it hard to find the article I was just notified about, can't access by clicking because of the browser issue, and would like to read.

The content is fantastic, however there are two fundamental issues with this app: 1. The advertisements at the bottom of the enewspaper. So freaking annoying! We are already paid subscribers. For a few pennies, why on earth would you anoy the ---- out of us by making us click to get rid of an advertisement and then accidently click on it. 2. Upload all of the content when opening the app. I am sick and tired of waiting for content to load when it could have all been loaded when I opened the app

The content is good, the app is buggy. The enewspaper lacka basic controls and doesn't integrate with Android very well - hitting the back button will exit the newspaper, but if you click on a link, there's no way for you to return to the newspaper. You also can't share from the enewspaper, and in the places where you can share links, it's not the standard Android share menu. Also, PLEASE get rid of the ads on the bottom of the page.
