One of Coppercod’s most requested games, Bid Whist is a classic quick-fire card game for four players playing in two teams.

Play now on your smartphone or tablet! Free to play. Track your stats and play with smart AIs.

Team up with one of our partner AIs to beat your opponents in Coppercod’s take on this classic card game.

Test your brain while you play and have fun!

To win, you and your partner must be the first pair to reach 7 points, or push your partners to fall to -7. Points are scored by the team that wins the bid, and they score one point per book they take over 6 if they meet or better their contract, but lose 1 point per bid over 6 tricks if they fail.

Bid Whist is a little more complex to learn, but rewarding as you improve your strategy over time to defeat your opponents. Uptown, downtown and 'no trump' bid types keep the landscape different every session. Choose between easy, medium and hard mode and make sure to track your all time and session stats to follow your improvement as you learn!

Make Bid Whist the perfect game for you with our customisable features!

Quickfire rules:
After the cards are dealt evenly between four players; the players, in turn, can pass or bid the number of books they believe their team can win above 6 (uptown for high cards, downtown for low cards or 'no trumps'). The winning bidder then decides which suit shall be trumps if an uptown/downtown bid was made, or which direction if a 'no trump' bid was made. The winning bidder then takes the kitty into their hand, which may be sported (turned face up) depending on your setting, and discards the number of cards contained in the kitty. The winning bidders are awarded the first book for taking the kitty.

Each player then plays one card in turn, following suit if they can. If they cannot follow suit they may play any other card in their hand, including a trump card. The aim for the winning bidding team is to take as many books as to at least win their contract. The other team is trying to win enough books to stop them.

At the end of each round, the winning bidders score either 1 point for every book they won over six if they met or bettered their contract, or lose their bid size in points if they failed to make their contract. The game is won when the first team reaches the win target of 7, or forces the opponents to drop to or below -7.

This is a fun game that could be made better. First the computer hand doesn't know how to play defensively. Second, I think low bids should be able to take out a high bid. Gave would be more challenging if the bid structure was designed this way.

Like playing though I don't understand why you'd cut with the Joker when you have lower cards to cut with. That could make a trump that could be caught become a winner. I thought the play was better on the higher level but how does my partner consistently get set on a 4? Actually not just my partner but on hardest level their 4 gets set regularly

Need an option to switch or advance the partner player levels. The winner of the bid partner needs to play with more strategy.

Starts off great then losing hands most all of the time. Computer opponents will 90% of the time out bid you, Op will have most all the suits, Op will have the favorable kitty, Op will win 89% of the games played, Op will have each other's back. I have to reset 17 out 20 times JUST to get a decent hand. Most of the times 3-4 cards each suit or 5-6 middle of a suit and 3-4 of other suits is what I'm dealt. Then my partner wins bid only to lose a lot. Layout/timing and esthetics & design are great

Really simple scripted bid whist game. Nothing fancy and the teammate can be frustrating sometimes. But all-in-all it's a great way to learn and get used to playing Bid Whist. Options allow you to change the rules to your local play style as well so you're accustomed when you play with friends. I believe the free version was a bit advertising heavy so I bought the paid version. Worth it in my opinion. Game hasn't crashed on me or had any issues/bugs.

Great implementation of bidding whist. I've been pleased with the AI thus far, though sometimes they make some poor bidding decisions or trick choices. However, the interface is slick, accessible, and no nonsense. I also like the ability to finely tune the rules to match something akin to a 'house style' or 'table rules'. All of the copper cod games are great. I'd love to see a cribbage offering from you! 🙂🃏

I like the game. The whole back is when you bid up, it won't let you bid down, and you have to move to the next level to bid down.

To allow for the newer Progressive version of Bid Whist makes this app unique. Nice Work. You s/b able to make books on your opponents Bid. Even if you don't win the bid. If you and your partner take 7 stacks you should get credited for making one book. Seven stacks equals 1 book. Eight stacks equals 2 books. The AI was set to win. Rating lowered again. The original request to fix the scoring flaw still hasn't been corrected. Fix the scoring the game easily rates 5 stars.
