The New Way to Practice Jazz!Genius Jamtracks is the play-along app for jazz musicians that thinks and plays like a real trio. With impressively realistic sound and feel, it helps you expand your repertoire, develop jazz vocabulary, and master polyrhythms.
We’re thrilled to introduce New Standards: 101 Lead Sheets by Women Composers—a monumental effort led by Terri Lyne Carrington, founder and artistic director of Berklee Institute of Jazz and Gender Justice.
What musicians are saying:
“Genius Jamtracks is easily the best play-along app out there! The piano voicings are logical and realistic, and the bass and drums use actual jazz language instead of simple repetitive patterns. It’s as close as you can get to playing with a real group. Highly recommended!”
~ Paul Bollenback
“It’s like a jazz musician wrote it! The drums and piano play just like a real jazz drummer and pianist. It couldn’t have been easy to create this!”
~ Steve Beskrone
Why It Sounds Great:
- A Real Swing Feel: Unlike other play-alongs, Genius Jamtracks changes the swing feel naturally with tempo adjustments. The app swings because it’s based on real transcriptions from jazz masters.
- Dynamics, Space, and Feel: The Genius Jamtracks trio pays close attention to dynamics, note durations, and feel to make practicing as authentic as playing with a real band.
- Actual Voice Leading: No matter the settings, the pianist maintains excellent voice leading, and the bassist creates beautiful, flowing lines to accompany you.
Features You’ll Love:
- Create Your Own Songs: Use the intuitive interface to compose or edit charts for your favorite jazz standards.
- Custom Playlists: Organize your songs and practice sessions with custom playlists.
- Beautiful Chord Charts: Enjoy easy-to-read chord charts with custom fonts designed for clarity.
Advanced Tools to Elevate Your Practice:
- Rhythm Department: Start with simple comping and progress to mastering advanced polyrhythms, groupings, ratios, and displacements. Customize the trio’s rhythmic phrasing to focus on specific skills while sharpening your reflexes.
- Harmonic Level Selector: Move from basic triads to advanced reharmonization and substitutions to challenge your harmonic understanding.
- Voicing Selector: Choose your preferred voicing style from the new, easy-to-use selector.
- Time Placement: Set the trio’s feel—from relaxed ballads to powerful straight-ahead swing.

The rhythm and harmony features of this app are outstanding and it has become a regular part of my routine. However I have a few recommendations. 1. The quality of sound is poor but a little reverb would fix that. 2. I would like to be able to share user songs between devices. 3. Enable charts to display number notation during play back. Anyone who comes along and combines the features of iReal and Genius Jam Tracks will steal the show.

For an app that is so expensive it has lots of glitches. It's hard to practice in time when you have a hiccup in the playback. It freezes up and crashes more often as tempos increase. The features that are intended to fine tune the backing track just wind up over complicating it. This is especially true of the drumset midi.

Works great on my Pixel 4a5g! This is a jazz oriented, blues capable, and worth some learning, probably other gerne supporting app. The sound quality is quite good for practicing but the loops repeat verbatim, without variants, so it would get boring in a live situation without at least a second or third instrument, or am I missed it? That said, the poly timings are great if you're into complex timings. There aren't any other apps I know of that do this. For the price, it's a bargain, IMO.

5 stars for the originality, the "feel" is very different and very customizable, lots of styles and variations to choose from can make playing challenging without spending up, the sounds are functional, room for improvement : 1. the chord font is hard to read, I can see the artistic choice of the font, it represents what the app does, but priority should be for readability, or at least give the user the option to choose. 2. The editor can use some features like copy and paste. 3. Auto transpose

Impressive features. It is not dull as iReal pro. Still lack some Quality of Life: Screen always on Minimized playlist Move order of playlist, order of songs in playlist Editing mode: Repeats

Almost perfect! There's a few rough edges but this app has the makings of a killer play along app.

Same as the previous review, hard to practice when there are glitches in the backing track and it goes behind in time. Consistent time hicups, unusable. Version 9.8
