Like others have described, the assistant has become less and less functional over time. When I drive, I say "hey Google"and ask it a command. It pops up, listens, acknowledges my response, then does nothing. this happens in my car, on my phone, outside of driving. I have also experienced the "unlock device first" issue. Google used to have a great ecosystem and apps, but you can't live in a house where the manager comes in and keeps changing your furniture (and your locks).

Google Assistant fails to make a sound to indicate it is active on my S20+, so it's pretty useless, since I never know if Google Assistant is actually activated and ready unless I'm looking at my phone, in which case I would not need Google Assistant. Could not find an option for the App to make a confirmation sound after saying "ok Google". PS: will send Feedback report as suggested and added one star for quick developer response. PS: As suggested in the review reply, I have submitted the issue via the Feedback form. It is quite simple: I say "OK Google", but never know whether my phone is "listening", as there is no confirmation sound. I have to LOOK at my phone to see if the assistant responds or is listening, but that sort of defeats the purpose for me.

This assistant is such a source of frustration. I wish smartphones were never invented in the first place. It rarely gets what you mean. It rarely has the permission to do what you need. I'd like if the assistant would allow me not to look at the phone. And if it would suggest spontaneously improvements to my schedule. You know, like an "assistant". Most of the times it loses connection anyway and won't respond

Recent update broke it. I don't need a voice assistant, I need a quick button to search amd translate the screen, that's all. It tries to be a "smart" assistant a bit too hard, removing these 2 important features just because it doesn't think there is any text on screen, it's really frustrating. On top of all this you cannot disable microphone permissions, it just brute force enables it without any change in settings

Utterly useless. Half of the time it doesn't even understand what I'm saying and if it does its responses are often not helpful or outright wrong. For years I tried to make it work and provided lots of feedback to Google but noticed no improvement. It has frustrated me countless times but never managed to impress. If that's the best Google has to offer in terms of AI, I doubt we'll have anything close to natural conversations with machines in the near future. For now, I've turned it off.

I'd like to give 0 stars. Lately, it's been buggy, annoying, borderline dangerous. On my Android phone, the assistant is pre-installed and won't go away, even if the PlayStore says it's not installed. It messes with my audio volume, randomly mutes calls, creates overlays (so many it blackens the screen), bugging me to turn it back on, and overall only assists in increasing anger issues. The volume bug is especially infuriating, and dangerous, as it suddenly blasts your music at you. Please help.

the window doesn't pop up anymore when opening the app or using a shortcut, and it seems to be on mute. I used this to translate on screen in real time. it was also useful for highlighting unselctable text from any app. I enjoyed this more than Gemini, please fix! this didn't happen until I tried gemini and switched back.

its not perfect but its the best you can get. Strangely I feel like Google Assistant is taking a step back. Most of my regular commands become consistently less refined and rather getting to know me better, it does the opposite. Now I gave the command to turn off "bedroom light" and strangely it left out light. It turned off 4 things in my bedroom. I can't tell what it turned off except for my bedroom light. I don't know what the other 3 things are and activity history doesn't list them either.
