Personal Safety is an app that helps you prepare and react in an emergency by quickly connecting you with the help and information you need.

Features

On phones
• Emergency SOS: Get help in an emergency by pressing the power button quickly 5 times or more. Then, your phone can:
\t ◦ Call emergency services or any number you choose
\t ◦ Share your location and critical info with your emergency contacts
\t ◦ Record, back up, and share a video

• Emergency Sharing: Share your real-time location and critical info with your emergency contacts. Also works with Google Assistant.

• Safety Check: Set a check-in timer for your phone to confirm you’re safe. If you don’t respond when the timer runs out, Emergency Sharing automatically starts. Also works with Google Assistant.

• Car crash detection (Pixel phones only): Get help calling emergency services after a car crash. If your Pixel phone detects that you've been in a crash, it can call for help automatically. Not available for all countries, languages, and devices. For availability details, go to g.co/pixel/carcrashdetection.

• Crisis alerts: Get notified about natural disasters and public emergencies near you.

• Medical info and emergency contacts: You can make this info visible when your phone is locked. In supported countries, you can also choose to automatically share this info if you contact emergency services.

On Pixel Watch
• Fall Detection: Your watch can detect a hard fall and call for help.

• Emergency SOS: Press the crown quickly 5 times or more to call emergency services or an emergency contact.

I like the ability to put in personal information and have safety checks from my phone, but you really need to allow people to add the icon to their home screen, which I'm currently unable to do. I have to first go into my phone settings then app listings to open up the app, or go into the Google Play store. That's way too many steps if you are in an emergency situation.

After OS update, this little jewel started randomly calling 911. It's happened 4 times today. After the 1st, it got stuck in a 10 minute reboot loop. I thought my phone was broken and reached out to my boss. Happy New Year! I can't access anything. The 2nd time, it froze the phone and I had to power it down. Now it's happened again at 1AM. UNACCEPTABLE. Also? if I was in actual trouble and needed a discreet way to notify someone, a shrill alarm sure isn't going to do me any favors.

App update disables car crash detection on devices where the app was side loaded and previously worked. I was in an accident and the app immediately alerted that it was preparing to call emergency services. To outright disable a feature that worked on my device, an app that has the potential to save lives, just because it wasn't a Pixel phone and mark it as "incompatible" is outrageous.

My phone will literally call 911 on its own now, multiple times a day and in the middle of the night, even when the phone is laying still not being used. This is a serious problem. The issue is that if you press the power button 5 times fast, it will call 911. Any hardware issue with the battery, boot loop bug, or sticky power button will trigger this. Factory reset does not resolve it either. This app (which cannot be uninstalled) turned an inconvenient issue with my phone hardware into an absolutely unacceptable phone-breaking issue that ties up dispatch resources. Real-world consequences for this terrible app.

Not showing up on pixel 3. Even after following the steps above that say the icon might be hidden it's not working. I've uninstalled and reinstalled (or updated as it says in the play store) multiple times and still nothing. I want to like this app but if I can't even open it how am I supposed to try it? Now it's just using up resources and taking up space for no reason and with no use. Also, the developer contact email is no longer watched.

Should have been engineered independently from Google Maps. Requiring location all the time makes sense in app itself, but requiring it *in the Maps app* is overreach. (It's also not a good look - by tying it to personal safety, it feels like extortion. And "Can't share your location" in giant letters *in a warning in a personal safety app* probably gets almost *everyone* to turn it on - without closely reading the fine print that it affects emergency contacts only).

The app is installed but missing from the app drawer, and yes I saw the note in the description. But I could not find the setting to make the app appear and that is still terrible design. I had to exit the initial setup when adding my emergency contacts since I got an important phone call, and then I had no way of getting back to the app. It wasn't even in the list of open apps. Had to reinstall. So annoying. Just make the apps listed in the app drawer.

It just installed, but there's no icon in the app drawer, and it's nowhere to be found in the settings menus. A one-time intro came up to get it going, but that's now gone too, so no apparent way to get back to it. UPDATE: app has now appeared in settings menu, with a link to add app to app drawer to get all of the features. Changed from initial 1 star to 3 stars. May revise again after checking out the functionality.
