Update - The first time I played this game, it was frustrating, likely due to misunderstandings and the fact that it was still in development. Now that it has progressed, things are clearer and understandable, and I think it's a great text-based RPG. While it still needs more work on world-building, quests, NPCs, and pictures, it's shaping up to be a solid game. Being a new, old-style text RPG, which is my favorite genre.

I have officially finished all of the content. Grim Tides, a fun yet lacking experience compared to it's predecessor, Grim Quest. While the story was still excellent, the customization of my character felt limited. Once you've locked into your weapon type (slashing, stabbing) you can only learn the abilities linked to that type of weapon. With forcing us to only use 1 ability tree it severely limits creativity. Also, the ship combat is just a no. Overall, loved the game, but it's no Grim Quest.

It's an improved version of the first game, Grim Quest. If you enjoy old school rpg games, it's worth trying because you can see how much effort the developers have put in. Ads aren't too intrusive and it's free. (obviously like most games there's in-game purchases you can make, but you don't have to pay to play)

So far I really like the game, at first I thought there was going to be a lot of information and be complex to understand, but just follow the tutorial and all good to go. I may suggest that the tiles in each dungeon be characterized. Meaning that the tiles in the first dungeon, the forest, don't look like stone tiles but dirt tiles for example. I say it because I was playing and thought the character was in a stone subterranean dungeon at first and then I remembered I was in a forest.

I loved Grim Quest and was happy to see there are more games. This one is unbalanced (overly grindy) and doesn't embrace the beauty of simplicity like the first game. I'm trying to get through the initial grievances to see if it gets any better, but I'm not hopeful, especially with the conduct of the creator to people who share my experience. The inability to take any criticism led me to firmly decide I was not making a purchase despite enjoying supporting creators of free games.

I've been looking for a text based rpg for a while that wasn't (torn) etc and I'm so happy I found this developer and all the games there brought out grim tides is amazing and very well made ,use the tutorial ! cause after you do the game is so easy to play. you will die alot .... but every time you do learn that little bit more and it makes you want to try again. brilliant games. 5 *

ten out of ten and five out of five. just enough mechanics to feel the reward for playing but not too much that it bogs you down. Lots of rich story that expands as you play, can't wait to see where it ends. If you're a pc gamer or rpg connoisseur looking for a portable fix, this is the stuff. Gameplay loop is efficient and satisfying and fits in with day to day really well. No silly timers either keeping progression out of reach. A nice jungle and pirates feel with lots of attention to detail.

Love the effort put into this. I love the colors/designs and general feel of the game. Even the music is nice. The progression feels really solid as well. EDIT: Final boss fight is insanely difficult and borderline impossible for the build I made. I spent all my gold mixing and maxing new spells to try too. Unfortunate because I put several hours into the game just to get to the last fight. Have since uninstalled and will move on. Extremely disappointing finish.
