Explore beyond the reaches of the Internet with Trail Sense.

- Designed for hiking, backpacking, camping, and geocaching
- Place beacons and navigate to them
- Use as a compass (only available on devices with a compass sensor)
- Follow paths
- Retrace your steps with backtrack
- Use a photo as a map
- Plan what to pack
- Be alerted before the sun sets
- Predict the weather (only available on devices with a barometer sensor)
- Use your phone as a flashlight
- And much more!

Trail Sense is a tool, and just like any other tool that you bring into the wilderness, it's essential to have backup equipment and skills. This app is intended for information purposes only and the accuracy of the predictions and sensors are determined by a number of factors, including calibration, sensor quality, external sources, etc. Use at your own risk, always have backup tools (ex. compass), and stay safe.

This app also does not, and will never, use the Internet - all information in Trail Sense comes directly from your phone's sensors, and no data will leave Trail Sense.

COMMON ISSUES
- No compass: If your phone does not have a compass sensor, there is nothing I can do to make it work because that is hardware. You will still be able to use other features of Trail Sense.
- No weather: The Weather tool is only available if your phone has a barometer sensor.

I'm the only developer of Trail Sense, so I will do my best to help out with issues - but I have a limited device selection to test on.

PERMISSIONS
- Notifications: Allows Trail Sense to display notifications (backtrack, weather, sunset alerts, astronomy events, water boil timer, etc)
- Location: Allows Trail Sense to retrieve your location for navigation, weather (sea level calibration), and astronomy.
- Background location: Allows Trail Sense to retrieve your location for sunset alerts while in the background. On some devices, this will also improve the reliability of backtrack and weather monitor.
- Physical activity: Allows Trail Sense to use your phone's pedometer for distance calculation.
- Camera: Allows Trail Sense to use your camera on the sighting compass, clinometer, and for taking photos used by the Cloud Scanner, QR Code Scanner, and Photo Maps.
- Alarms & reminders: Allows Trail Sense to post a notification at an exact time. This is used by the Clock tool (when updating system time) and Sunset Alerts.

I downloaded 'Trail Sense' after seeing it recommended by "Android Police". It does exactly what it says in the description. All the features work very well. It's especially impressive when you realize it has no Internet connectivity; it's just using your device sensors and whatever almanac was programmed into it. If the Dev ever decides to make a "Gold" version that's identical in every respects to this one, except for a spiffier icon, I'd gladly drop a couple bucks just to say thanks.

Best trail or outdoor related app, period. Tons of features, updated with more regularly, and no ads. I use it all the time, whether to check sunset/rise, measure all sorts of things, and even level out paintings! Simply put, if you hike or need a simple, unobtrusive app that helps you use your survival skills, you need this app. Donate to the developer! It keeps getting updated with cool features!! Plus, it's super small and fast.

An excellent app for hikers, campers, and adventurers. My android phone is my primary computer and I use it for lifelong learning in the field. Trail Sense pulls everything the phone has that can be used for outdoor recreation and survival to the surface so you can easily use it. And it all works! Note: if your phone case has a bunch of magnets in it, take the phone out to use anything that draws data from the magnetometer...compass, metal detector, sensor suite, etc

This is exactly what i was looking for. This app has almost every tool i can imagine to survive. I am already feeling really confident to survive the wilderness. The only bummer is the compass not working at all. However, I think it's a problem with my phone because how much ever i calibrate i can never get it to function properly.

This app is amazing, I've shared it with all my friends and family. As someone without an Internet connection, it's been invaluable. I use it almost every day. The experimental maps feature has worked great for tracking trails on my property and surrounding woods. And as someone with some coding experience, I have an idea of how much time and work have gone into this, and it shows. Thank you so much.

Absolutely the best made, fit and finish, useful, ad free app I have had in my life. While I don't often say this, it's functionality should be rewarded and there could be a pro version (or donation link) that I would gladly pay for. While the monetization of such a great app is usually frowned upon, I believe most users would pay to help you as you have helped us. Thank you for making an app that is as fun to use as it is helpful, without needing wifi or stupid ads. Cheers!

Trail Sense is a fantastic multidisciplinary app with features like the compass and speedometer, which also work great as basic navigation tools for sailing (COG and SOG). *Adding a simple Man Overboard (MOB)* feature to mark and return to specific location when sailing, along with a adding few sailing terminologies for route planning over waters, would make it even more useful for casual boaters. Overall, it’s a perfect tool for navigation and outdoor enthusiasts.

A fantastic app, just incredible that it is free, so many thanks to the developer. It is full of great tools and I really like the fact that they are nearly all usable offline. For some reason the backtrack feature doesn't work on my phone, which is a shame as I would really like to use it. I would be happy to provide more details if that helps. Edit: many thanks to Kyle for helping me sort out the above issue within 24 hours. The solution was to reduce the backtrack frequency to a lower value)
