Android App Analysis and Review: Cable Calculator, Developed by Pro Certs Software Ltd. Listed in Productivity Category. Current Version Is 2.1.34, Updated On 12/12/2024 . According to users reviews on Google Play: Cable Calculator. Achieved Over 2 thousand Installs. Cable Calculator Currently Has 1 Reviews, Average Rating 5.0 Stars

This application calculates the required cable size based on your entered design data and selected options.

Calculate the minimum required cable size in mm² for various cable types & sizes, protective devices, installation methods and correction factors based on BS 7671 IET Wiring Regulations.

You can use this cable calc app to check existing cables and circuits for compliance to verify cable sizes in existing electrical installations or for designing new final circuits and sub main supplies in new installations and create and save PDF file of the calcultion results.

Features:
✔ Print cable calculation results
✔ Verification and validation checks
✔ Support for manufacturer specific MCCB's & ACB's (max Zs)
✔ Support for RCD's in TT Earthing Systems

Design Parameters:
- Ib : Design current (Amps)
- L : Circuit length (Meters)
- Vd : Maximum permitted volt drop (%)
- Uo : Supply voltage (Volts)
- Ze/Zdb : Supply source earth loop impedance (Ohms)
- In : Protective device rating (Amps)
- s : Maximum disconnection time (Seconds)
- Cable type
- Installation method
- Protective device type
- Earthing system type (TN-C-S, TN-S, TT)

Correction Factors:
- Cg : Grouping
- Ca : Ambient air temperature
- Ca : Ambient ground temperature
- Ci : Thermal insulation
- Cc : BS 3036 semi-enclosed fuses

Cable Calculator Calculations:
- It : Tabulated current
- R1+R2 : Circuit expected R1+R2 value
- Zs : Circuit expected Zs value
- Max Zs : Calculated max Zs values for 0.2s, 0.4s & 5s (80% + 100% values)
- Vd : Calculated voltage drop %
- CF : Total applied correction factor value
- Minimum required cable size (mm²)

This cable calculator takes into account and applies the following factors for it's cable sizing calculations:
- Vd : Max volt drop
- Cf : Correction factors
- L : Length of circuit
- Zs : Maximum Zs 80% temperature adjusted value

Example Verification Checks:
- Checks the calculated Zs with the Max Zs 80% value
- Checks if user selects TT earthing system = RCD required
- Checks if user selects 3% volt drop (lighting) and device In = >16 amps
- Checks if user selects disconnection time 5 seconds and device In = <32 amps
- Checks if selected protective device Max Zs already exceeds your supply Zs/Zdb value
- Checks if design current (Ib) exceeds the protective device rating (In)
- Checks if the protective device rating (In) is double the design current (Ib)
- + many more...

A great cable sizing tool which also calculates the expected Zs value, volt drop %, and estimated r1+r2 in addition to the minimum required cable size.

How to use:
1) STEP 1 - Enter your cable calculation design parameters
2) STEP 2 - Select an installation method & apply any relevant correction factors
3) Tap "Calculate" to calculate the cable size
4) Tap the printer icon to Print cable calculation results
5) Optional, sign the screen to sign the document

This cable size calculator app is designed for Android phones, tablets and Android based PCs.

I have only had a quick play, and the app itself is fine. What let's it down for me are the following. On opening the app you are greeted with, what I can only describe as a sales pitch for more products, when I open the app, I just want it to open, and not other things that are for sale. This could be me missing something and not the app, but It doesn't seem to have the option to add a logo or company details, which would be nice, and look more professional, as well as changing the colour.

Pro's 1. I like the layout of the app, it is formatted in a logical order. 2. Easy to use, especially onsite for a quick check. 3. App support are very helpful, I had a problem and they emailed me at various times of the day and evening. 4. Like the option to print out a document with the design and circuit data. Cons 1. Can't see an option to save circuit details. 2. Text overlapped on results sheet . However, easily sorted by reducing display font size ( support team solution to this).

Asks for too much data before calculating. It's very difficult to calculate the initial cable size, as it asks for way too much data. For example, it asks for Ze(Impedance) and Protective device rate, when it is not needed. For example, I simply run cable from transformer to the building electrical panel. If you simply need to calculate size of the cable based on kW or Amp total, all these data is not necessary and not needed. The other application from Ettoire Group is much better.

Nice easy to use calculator, would be nice if you could add a separate CPC for distribution circuits but not a deal breaker.

Thanks for your quick respond but I have worked out size of cable myself so It's fine 3 stars for quick respond But not impressed with the App Needs to be more simple.

Its works better than any other app than i have found on here. The only issue is some of the writing overlaps on my phone

Been using it for about a month now and it's been brilliant Best cable calc I've found by far

Shame you can only have a cable with same size cpc as live conductor, especially when using swa and want to run a different size separate cpc.
