Struggeling with too many devices around you using the 2.4 GHz Wifi? This app tries to force your device to the less used 5 GHz band.Depending on the Android version, you will probably have to switch off and re-activate your Wifi.
Please give a try whether this app works on your device. Any feedback is welcome by email.
Necessary permissions:
* LOCATION: Google enforces the location permissions in order to get access to all Wifis around you. Without, the app won't work (unfortunately)
* WIFI/NETWORK: Of course the app needs access to your wifi interface
* BACKGROUND SERVICES/NOTIFICATIONS: to keep the app running
* ADMOB/INTERNET: for Google Ads (can be deactivated)

Love this app! I've been looking for something like this very, very, very long time. Great job Eric! One suggestion for a modification would be to be able to hide the app and have it run in the background all the time, sort of like a VPN app does. That way when I press the "close all apps" button on my Android it keeps running.

Alas seems to not do anything for my Titan Pocket (Android 11), even after turning off and back on my wireless interface. Toggling airplane mode seems more reliable but it still feels like by chance that is Android doing this rather than this app. The app also does not persist in the background so even if it did work i would be repeatedly having to restart this all which is going to get boring fast. Thanks for trying to fix this, it is hard enough persuading wpa_supplicant on Linux to do this!

Where is the "connect" button? This app only filters out the 2.4ghz and 5ghz SSIDs. This is only for viewing, it doesn't force any device to connect to preferred bandwidths.

Different kind of app and not easy to find otherd that do the same thing. I tried another one but it crashes everytime I try it. ForceWifi5 can be difficult to keep running but once you get used to it it does the job it's built for.

This app works flawlessly, just flawless! I have Starlink and the Router has both 2.4ghz and 5ghz and the same SSID, every other method on Android 11 no longer let's you select a preferred frequency, this app found my Starlink and was able to switch the bands. This works perfectly!

I have a Japanese xz2 premium that runs best on its original android 8.0. My modem broadcast mixed 2.4 and 5G under one name. When I'm in a bedroom furthest from the modem the phone connects to 2.4G. This app is exactly what I was looking for to force 5g wifi. Now when watching prime video it remains HD or 4K. Nicely done program. Newer Android tends to connect to 5g even signal is less than the 2.4g. Older Android like 8 and prior always set to 2.4G unless you are very close to modem/router.

Tried of few other similar apps some did not work or were overly complicated with settings. This one, install, allow two permissions and it works right off the mark. Can recommend if u want something that works without the drama.

Initial 4stars, will up to 5 if it's all good in a couple days App immediately helped me move over to 5ghz channel on wifi. For whatever reason android won't let me natively choose the right channel even though it's higher Mbps. Smh Anyway thanks to dev. If everything's gravy in a week I'll figure out how to toss ya a few bucks. Much appreciated 👍
