Android App Analysis and Review: NZ Topo50 Offline - North, Developed by Right Place Resources. Listed in Maps & navigation Category. Current Version Is v6q, Updated On 23/06/2025 . According to users reviews on Google Play: NZ Topo50 Offline - North. Achieved Over 21 thousand Installs. NZ Topo50 Offline - North Currently Has 126 Reviews, Average Rating 4.5 Stars

Complete 1:50k offline topographic map coverage using the LINZ NZTopo50 series maps. The maps are included fully with the install. No additional downloads, no account signup, no missing tiles, no added fees, just seamless offline pan and zoom across the whole North Island.

Ideal for back country navigation without cell phone access. Popular with trampers, walkers, bikers, runners, hunters, search and rescue, Te Araroa walkers.

Navigation functions includes GPS positioning, track logging, user waypoints, orientation (compass), altitude and speed display, distance and bearing to points on the map, route creation and following. Search for and zoom to named places and features on the map. Tracks and waypoints can be imported, exported, and shared in kml or gpx format.

Overlays showing DOC open permit hunting boundaries, Te Araroa tracks, and other data is included.

This app is built from the ground up to use the NZ national map grid, not the global average WGS84 datum commonly used which distorts the map. This is easy to spot. A true NZ grid will give you perfectly parallel gridlines when the LINZ map is projected onto it.

No internet or cellular phone connection is needed for full use of all the maps and navigation functions.

The storage space required for this app is reasonably large. Ensure you have sufficient space available.

Made in NZ.

Downloaded then trialed the app yesterday following a track on Mt Holdsworth. Very accurate track recording (certainly more so than garmin). So nice to have reliable access to GPS. I haven't tried off track so can't comment on that. Still trying to figure out how to smoothly use all the functions, maybe a little "how to" video wouldn't go far astray?

Very very handy! Awesome app. I have an idea for next update: an overlay the DOC public conservation land. This would be good to scope out new re-routes on the ground as sometimes its a bit hard to tell where the boundaries are on the fly. Thank you very much for all your hard work, its very much appreciated! The new updates are awesome 😃

Simple and effective offline map. Would love a higher resolution Google maps as an option would even pay more for it. Additionally while using the app in lock screen, on one occasion it has stopped retrieving the GPS co ordinates. Have double checked all permissions/sleep settings. Once the phone is unlocked, the app picked it up again correctly.

Awesome app - we use it to log where we have been and have also used it when we've felt like we might have gone astray in the bush. It would be so so good if you were able to share locations with other users of the app. Also, the icons for waypoints could do with some additions - waterfall -car(or road)- tent for a start. One thing that is really annoying though, the map takes up the full screen and doesn't show the back button or the the button to nav between open app.

Great app for bush navigation, better than some GPS's in a few ways. A few things that could be added to make it even better would be the ability to change the colours of way points and tracks, and also the ability to continue recording tracks that have already been created as sometimes I find the GPS will turn itself off or I might not be able to record a whole track in one trip to my spot so it would be neat to be able to come back and continue recording it.

Best tool that has made my outdoor navigation so easy. Excellent for bush stalking. Brilliant support service. Latest update promptly resolved a compass issue with my new Oppo phone after providing feedback to the developer. Switching between satellite imagery and topo maps is so convenient. Save waypoints with the option to attach a photo.

Very impressed, simple to use and very accurate. I have just tested it on the Wairoa Loop Track and it is so easy to see where you are at all times. I love how you can turn off the screen and then view the app again without having to enter your security code. Has great analytics after you have finished your hike. The price is a bargain for what you get.

This is the first rating and review I've bothered with since owning a smart phone; I felt it was worth doing because I reckon this app is fantastic. I live in Australia now and can't find an offline topo/navigation app to match this one for ease of use and functionality - please consider making one for us poor folk over the ditch!
