According to users reviews on Google Play: NZ Topo50 Offline - South. Achieved Over 31 thousand Installs. NZ Topo50 Offline - South Currently Has 335 Reviews, Average Rating 4.6 Stars

Complete 1:50k offline topographic map coverage using the LINZ NZTopo50 series maps. The maps are included fully with the install. No additional downloads, no account signup, no missing tiles, no added fees, just seamless offline pan and zoom across the whole South Island.

Ideal for back country navigation without cell phone access. Popular with trampers, walkers, bikers, runners, hunters, search and rescue, Te Araroa walkers.

Navigation functions includes GPS positioning, track logging, user waypoints, orientation (compass), altitude and speed display, distance and bearing to points on the map, route creation, route following. Search for and zoom to named places and features on the map. Tracks and waypoints can be imported, exported, and shared in kml or gpx format.

Overlays including DOC open permit hunting boundaries, Te Araroa tracks, and other data is included.

This app is built from the ground up to use the NZ national map grid, not the global average WGS84 datum commonly used which distorts the map. This is easy to spot. A true NZ grid will give you perfectly parallel gridlines when the LINZ map is projected onto it.

No internet or cellular phone connection is needed for full use of all the maps and navigation functions.

The storage space required for this app is reasonably large. Ensure you have sufficient space available.

Made in NZ.

I have tried all the others hoping for something free. I even tried one of the freemiums that allowed you to cache maps if you paid. Of course, whenever I needed it somehome *that* part of the map would appear blank... This app however is totally different and the maps come complete with the app. It means that the maps are always available in full resolution. Exactly what you need and not a lot more. I also like that you can import tracks and there are most of the doc tracks and huts already.

Great app, use it all the time when hunting. But, the points or POI need improving. When creating a new point, there should be a 1-touch manouvre, which should mark the user's position, and not the 'cross' position. Also is there a way of displaying the point names on screen. ALSO, the top menu should default to distances instead of coordinates. Who uses coordinates?

Very handy to use when out in the back blocks or your local forestry block. The live tracking blue dot is very useful. Cons. These topo maps are standard & haven't been updated for years to add in or remove roads that no longer exist. Currently doing recce in forest blocks & find new roads. Is it possible to have the ability to add a road to our map once we travel it?

Best app o have downloaded, perfect for when out hunting or tramping. Yo don't need reception for it to pick up your location. It shows you hunting and fishing spots and allows you to add many different types of markers on the map which is good for setting possum traps or where you have seen animal sign. No need to buy a hand-held gps if you have this app.

Compared to OsmAnd very basic but cheaper and if you only want a basic topographic map app (limited to the South Island) that allows for gpx/kml tracking then this app is more than adequate as it is also easy to use. A significant potential downside of this app is it's large file size. This would only be an issue if you are running the app on a phone without much space available (either internal or SD card space). Another downside is that it can be a little slow to load, at least on my A30.

Uses about 2GB of storage (just for the South Island maps). If you have the spare space on your phone then this is nicer to use than apps that allow you to manage offline downloads of maps manually. The interface is nice and simple to use, personally I prefer this app to BackCountry Navigator. Unfortunately this app forces itself to fullscreen and has no option to disable this. This makes it difficult to switch apps if your phone doesn't have physical buttons.

Really enjoy this app, and the Northisland version, Any chance you could add a zoom for the big scale? Trying to zoom at one scale and it jumps down a scale, then the writing I was zooming to see got smaller haha! Would be good to maybe have a button to push and that will change scales, or something along those lines Otherwise! Wicked app, keep up the good stuff Cheers

Gps and tracking is very accurate. Topographic map is OK. There should be an option to change from "north up" to "track up". Also being able to create way points by tapping on the screen would be handy. I only managed to store the way point of my current location. The compass doesn't work. Turning west over North the N symbol turns to W and vice versa. It tells me from North to East is a 120 degrees???? The degree number seems to be ok. An option from true to magnetic would be good too.
