Spectroid is a real-time audio spectrum analyzer with reasonable frequency resolution across the the entire frequency spectrum.💬 FAQ 💬
Q: Why are the dB values negative?
A: Spectroid uses dBFS (Full Scale) where 0 dB is the maximum power that the microphone can measure, so the decibel values are negative because the measured power is less than the maximum power.
Q: Can I zoom in on the spectrum plot?
A: Yes, do a two-finger pinch-to-zoom gesture.
Q: Why are there discontinuities/gaps in the spectrum plot and waterfall?
A: Spectroid uses multiple FFTs overlapped in frequency in order to provide better frequency resolution at lower frequencies than a single FFT. The caveat of this method is varied impulse response and minor discontinuities in frequency. The upside is that it can efficiently produce a spectrum that better matches the frequency resolution of human audio perception. It's still probably not as good as your ears though!
Q: Can I export the spectrum data?
A: Spectroid doesn't make your device a calibrated instrument. If you need the spectrum data then you should be using an actual spectrum analyzer rather than an app on your mobile device.

Very fast and reasonably accurate with 0 baggage attached. If I had to criticise something it would be the black lines in between the frequency ranges covered by adjacent decimations, but they are only really noticeable once you zoom further into the spectrogram. Perhaps they could be hidden visually even if still present "behind the scenes".

I was looking for exactly this app today and I'm so glad I found it! but if there was one thing missing that would make this completely perfect for what I am using it for, it would be an optional setting to display the current peak frequency as the closest musical note instead of / in addition to the numerical frequency. Could also just be accomplished with simple labels on the x axis of the spectrum - I'll just do it manually with a marker for now though, haha.

Great app. It helped a lot setting my speakers and identifying unwanted reflexions. In a further development, a microphone equalisation would be a plus as well as way to record and replay the analyzed audio signal. PS: since the upgrade to android 7 the screen doesn't rotate as it used to. I can no longer use the phone upside down, that is with the microphone in front of the source, with a rotated display. The screen stays in the wide screen mode.

Very nice and simple! Some things I had trouble with were: 1) switching to 96kHz sampling doesnt work (maybe it is not supported by my phone - SGS9) 2) change from log to linear X axis scale has no effect until the application is restarted. 3) increasing the number of FFT bins freezes the display completely

A really great app that does exactly what it says and provides some excellent and useful data. the only way I can think of to improve this would be some sort of data export function and I would happily pay 5 or $10 for a pro version that had that and a few other configurable options for output.

I like the app but it would be really cool if you could actually load like a calibration file then make your mic a little more accurate. it seems odd it doesn't have the different weightings to choose from. I'm assuming unprocessed is basically flat or unweighted? I'm not sure. But I would pay something for giving it a few more features and the ability to load a calibration file would be really cool. Maybe to load and save charts too.

Perfection. opens quickly, is extremely responsive and accurate and has just the right amount of settings. I'd only request more octave markers and colored frequency ranges but it's fine if it can't be implemented. Where's the tip button? I'd love to support your app

This app can be really useful. I personally have an high sensitivity to high frequency and few ultrasounds. This app can be use to prove the presence of parasitic sound, sensors or even "anti-teen" devices . I recommend for sound sensitive people or people working in electrical repairs. It could be pertinent if it's doable with accuracy to add a calibration function and noise cancel or a compensation for some sensor inabilities. In term of data transfer and privacy, this app is pretty amazing.
