I really wanted this to be good since I've been stuck in the upper intermediate and lower advanced for forever. Unfortunately it seems the app doesn't always test the vocab in sentence reconstruction, some of the clips don't match the vocab at all (especially because one word was simply a person's name), or the clip says it so quietly you cant hear it. AI also regrettably checks your "speaking" so there's no way of knowing if you actually did it right (and I know I couldnt possibly get 100%).

Would I recommend it? The short answer is yes, it's a good way to learn as a supplement. On the other hand, it has serious problems. At least on the Japanese course it's very common that the furigana is wrong or just just not there, the whole sentence translations are sometimes wrong, and the clips are sometimes cut in weird places so a syllable is missing. On the other hand, it's really really useful to hear words used in different contexts. So do try it, but be aware it has problems.

So far so good. I'd update the review but it's pretty good for learning correct pronunciations through videos of native speaking and also being able to compare our pronunciation with it. however not sure about how accurately AI judges but will see. Overall it's really good app to be used as standalone learning platform however it would be even more better if there were grammar structure explanations like how each verb has it's function in the sentence and so on. Well done umi developers!

5-star idea, but not ready. Words introduced don't match clips, like ペン meaning pen, but videos show PENdragon (surname from Howl's Moving Castle). Clips seem auto-made, not human-checked. Many cut off too soon/late; first/last words often lost. At €60/year, it's too pricey for current performance. At €20, I'd buy it to show support for the concept. Developers, please improve! 🙏 EDIT: Now crashes when I try to do reviews...

A very good app, learning in context is best for intermediate level, but is helpful also for beginners. The 1 star reduction is because problems in loading videos and need for app refresh, other than that, awesome! Would also be thrilled for italian and chinese!

Great idea, it still needs work to be comparable with the other big players, but the developers are actively making changes and are very receptive to feedback from users. My review started at 1 star, but lately they have been pushing features/fixing bugs and making the app a lot more usable. I'm looking forward to see how the app progresses and hopefully help me stay on track with my studies.

A near perfect app (until the last update). I have been diligently studying Japanese during my study abroad and having the option to add words to my reviews was tremendously helpful in my studies. Unless I simply cannot find the option, it seems there's no way to save/search words anymore. I paid for a full year and haven't received any feedback from contacting support. If this is fixed, I'll gladly edit my review and give it five stars because it deserved it!

I downloaded the app and went through the account making process, but the app is permanently stuck loading. I've tried closing and reopening it, force stoping and reopening it, force stopping and clear app data and cache, and uninstalling and reinstalling. All to no effect. Quite disappointing as I was really interested in the concept of this app.
