The PIZZEY AND KNIGHT BIRDS OF AUSTRALIA DIGITAL EDITION for Android is a comprehensive and interactive application that combines multimedia data on over 980 Australian bird species with seven interactive modules for every aspect of mobile birding*.The app can be used as a FIELD GUIDE (like the book) or as a BIRD LIST, with essential functions such as view bird page, play the sound, add to your list and view similar birds available directly in both.
The FIELD GUIDE displays the full field guide pages of the book. You can browse the pages and identify a bird, play the sound, add to your list, and open the Bird Page for further detail.
The BIRD GUIDE includes a full bird list and individual BIRD PAGES for over 980 Australian bird species, with illustrations, species text, distribution maps, photographs and sounds.
The BIRD LIST includes all the new species and new names, with functions for Play Sound, Add to List, Distribution map, Bird Page, Similar Birds and Field Guide Page. In addition to English and Scientific names, languages include Dutch, French, German, Italian, Portuguese, Spanish, Swedish, Japanese and Chinese. Bird list settings include small, medium and large fonts and thumbs. You can also select regional lists, birding site lists and map location lists.
SIMILAR BIRDS loads a list of birds similar to that selected. COMPARE BIRDS displays the bird pages side by side for direct comparison.
IDENTIFICATION uses location, habitat, bird shapes and plumage to shortlist possible species for identification.
MY LOCATION is an interactive map for finding your current location, generating bird lists for your location, and locating birding sites near you. Tap for a new location, get GPS co-ords and load a bird list, or tap a birding site to get a list or open the site description.
MY LISTS is a personal list manager that includes a life list and sub-lists that report to your life list. You can also sync your lists to Google Drive, and export lists for backup. Sighting details include place, date, GPS co-ords, and sighting notes.
BIRDING SITES includes descriptions of 270 birding sites from around Australia, with photos, bird list, and weather forecast. "Show on Map" loads Google Maps for directions and navigation to the site.

This is a great app. The photos of each bird really help with identification. The recorded bird calls give various types of call eg. alarm, morning calls, mating calls etc. as well as for birds in different locations. I use the list function to keep a record of everything I see. You can even record gps for each sighting if you want to.

I had just purchased a new samsung tablet, which has taken over the licence from my samsung phone. I couldn't seem to get it back working on my phone as it says licence has been superseded. I emailed support regarding this issue within 24 hours they advised that licences had been cleared, and I was able to reinstall on the phone. You can have PK birds installed on 2 devices, which is handy. Excellent service!

I've owned this app for a number of years. It's extremely useful in identifying the birds around me. It's quiet amusing playing a bird call to the appropriate species and watching their reaction. I had a minor problem recently transferring the app from one phone to another but I got onto the app producer who gave me instructions for a straightforward fix. Reply and fix all within a couple of hours. Excellent app and backup support.

My favourite paid app ever. By far the best bird app I've used. Has supplanted my paper guides for 90% of my use. Love the lists, my own lists appeal to the twitcher in me , but the distribution-specific lists are great too. The combo of paintings and photos has really helped with IDs, and the bird calls feature is gold - has helped nail several tricky IDs. It is really expensive, and not very flexible, would like to buy regional bird expansion packs at reasonable price. But best in class!

We had this app on 2 mobiles but when we got a new phone and moved everything, it will only work on the new one after I chose the oldest phone to delete it from. The message on the other phone is that there is a data license error for this device as the data license has been superseded. Help!! And help came from the developers. Thanks for the quick response. Happy now.

Great information but finding it is difficult. The app is confusing and hasn't been updated in 3 years. What's the difference between Field Guide and Bird Guide and Bird Identification? What are the different bird names sorting? I would expect to be able to save photos to my personal list of birds I've seen, but this basic feature is missing. Many complaints and answers, but nothing is done to actually fix the problems. At this price it's not ok. I regret buying this app.

This app crashed repeatably on first install. On advice from developed reinstalled, deleted app cache and data, and let it redownload and extract it's data. So far so good. The good: good listing of birds with pictures, bird sounds, and distribution. The bad: Interface reminds me of early 2000's. bird identification does provide a list based on location, but further searching by colour of bird produces no results.

The app is quite comprehensive, with descriptive information and audio calls for almost all Australian birds. Some more updated calls and songs for some birds would be nice. My major gripe and reason for not giving 5-stars is that the app always crashes after being opened and then minimised for a period of time. After seeing this error happen whilst in the Field Guide section, it appears as though the main data repository file becomes unmounted and the app cannot access it's reference files.
