Syria's Lost is an app developed by Alesa Ai to collect and store documents, data, information, and reports on people who had disappeared or went missing during the Assad Regime.

The first stage of the app is to collect, store, and collate as much data as possible. The second stage of Syria's Lost is to use AI to allow for the information to be searchable and accessible to help bring closure to those who have suffered.

With the fall of the Assad regime, prisons, police stations, and government buildings are now being searched by families looking for missing loved ones. This search for documents and files on their loved ones is leading to the loss of that information, as documents not related to their loved ones are often discarded on tables and floors during these searches. Over time, these documents and files will become damaged beyond legibility.

Syrians around the world, not just within Syria, have been subjected to the atrocities of Assad, and the objective of this app is to preserve every bit of information before it is lost, to help bring closure to those who have suffered.

Syria's Lost started as a passion project when Assad's regime fell. Our CEO, Alex, saw news coverage where citizens were storming prisons and government buildings and saw panicked Syrians trying to find any information on their loved ones. In this need for closure, documents and files were strewn around these buildings. This started Alesa Ai's journey on how to save these documents for all those that lost loved ones.

The app features include:
Offline signup and login options.
Scan document pages and compile them into a single document to upload.
Delete and edit scanned pages and images.
Create a Missing Person Report for family members and friends to provide and archive that can be referenced by the future government and NGOs working within Syria and the displaced citizens around the world.

Over the following months, we hope to collect a significant number of documents, files, and missing person reports. We are presently investigating a range of analytic and AI-powered approaches to ensure the best way to deep dive into all this data, allowing for it to be searchable for names, places, and any other information that is relevant to finding missing persons.

Our mission is to bring closure to as many families as possible. To give those of the missing an opportunity to record government documents for any missing or disappeared person, with the objective of creating an AI database of missing, disappeared, and displaced Syrians.

Our future objective is to use all the collected documents and files to create a trained and searchable Large Language Model (LLM). To develop a chat interface to enable searches for missing people, encompassing all scanned and uploaded documents and files as well as reverse searching of all submitted missing person reports.
