This is a good app and has served me well for a few years now. The premium version has more useful features for desktop but I cannot justify £29.99 every year as I rarely use a desktop pc now. The ability to use different taxonomies for birds, mammals, reptiles etc is excellent. Has covered my basic bird recording worldwide.

Great app, flexible, intuitive. Imagine this: you're out birding, or driving, or you're at work. You want to record what you've seen, where you saw them, when you saw them? Easy. Turns out that Google won't let me write all the words to say how good this app is. There are flaws, obviously, but nothing awful and the developers seem to be keen to listen and resolve. There's also a desktop app which has even more power to use your data. I love it!

Update Dec 2021. No longer works, hangs as soon as it starts up. This happened after I used the desktop app to export my data; the desktop app updated itself and now the android app doesn't work. Disappointing. Previous review: When entering sightings the location field implies you can start to enter a location and then search for it but it doesn't seem to work. It would be good if you could do that instead of having to scroll through all the locations. Otherwise a nice app.

I love this app. I only wish I had more time to go bird watching so I could use it more. There is a small learning curve but once you have the basics down it is pretty easy to use. I haven't even begun to customize it to the perfect record keeping log. I recommend that anyone thinking about downloading the app to not hesitate and do so. If it seems slightly confusing at first just keep trying because once you are used to it you will be happy you stuck with it.

HORRIBLE APP!! Spent 10 minutes trying to come up with a password. I cannot enter location, date, anything. App is completely useless without instructions. Developers should throw this away and start over... Ok figured out (on my own) how to enter location but now I have to search through every city IN THE WORLD?!?! What the heck??? I put in USA I should be able to select country and state.

My wife really likes this app but she just bought a new pixel 4 and can't enter any new entries. She can enter the date and place but not the new species. After entering date and location she hits continue and the app just returns to whatever page it was on - or it reports a crash.

Very comprehensive global lists and taxonomies, but very cumbersome interface and (most importantly) very unstable. After one hour of use, Bird Journal crashed five times on my Galaxy S8 with more than enough memory available and few other apps running. Am uninstalling.

I've only just started using Bird Journal, so I'm learning. My bird lists are usually on scraps of paper, so this is better! I'm looking for a help section because I tend to start looking for an answer in the middle of an entry. For example What does Highlight mean? Also is there a way to search for a bird's name by its general name first, rather that the specific name first? I think of those names as last and first names.
