Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS in short) is a criminal code of India that replaces Indian Penal Code (IPC) of 1960.

Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita Bill comes to effect on 1st July, 2024.

What is Section 84 of Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita?
Under the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita, Section 498A of IPC have been shifted to Section 84 of BNS.
It says: Whoever takes or entices away any woman who is and whom he knows or has reason to believe to be the wife of any other man, with intent that she may have illicit intercourse with any person, or conceals or detains with that intent any such woman, shall be punished with imprisonment of either description for a term which may extend to two years, or with fine, or with both.

Similarly, under the BNS, there is no Section 420. The offence of cheating has been moved to Section 316 of BNS.
