*EDIT: Switch Full Screen to Off solves the problem.* Excellent port of the greatest side scroller ever. It is only let down by having your ship or an enemy's fire obscured by your own thumb. Dare I suggest an option to limit the screen size in order to have control space along one edge. Failing that I'll have to find an add on joystick because this game is too good to waste.

This my favourite eve game I've only ever got to the last boss and never finished it but will do as I'll never give up! This is a excellent conversion. But you should be able to put the picture in the middle and the controls at either side because I've noticed IV been killed alot by stray bullets because my thumb obscures the screen (picture means bit that is just the game and graphics how it use to be. Pls fix this fault I would have gave 4.5 stars but I only does 4-5 and my fav gets 5

Amazing arcade game, awful mobile controls. I love playing the original R-Type game, but the controls of this mobile port are awful. The buttons are too small even if you max out its 'zoom' setting. Not sure if this is an issue specific to the Samsung Galaxy S7 or all Android phones in general, since I'm not playing this game on a tablet.

The game is fun, but the controls will get you killed often. It's not like they're bad, either. They're made well for a game that wasn't originally designed for smartphones. The thing is, enemies will attack you from anywhere, so when you have a thumb taking up space on your screen, you'll be left vulnerable to incoming enemy projectiles from certain angles. The game and its sequel are dirt cheap, so if you can adjust to the controls, then you're in for a treat.

This game's been making me look foolish for 34 years now. It's difficult, but it always was. I'm always dubious about mobile versions of retro games that were never designed for touch screens as the mechanics never work satisfactorily, however R-Type doesn't just work on a phone, it feels more intuitive. I now struggle to play a different version using a controller as it feels too slow. Whether you want a nostalgia hit or one of gaming's legendary shoot-em up challenges, I recommend this. No ads

Really enjoyed R-Type in the 80's the controls as mentioned obscure part of the screen and you get killed by enemies from behind. My biggest complaint is that when I drift back it places me at the front of the screen. Seems to be a glitch. There was no wrap around in the original game and is super annoying in this version. The graphics and sound identical to the original game. I still enjoy, but could be better.

Ok so basically this is our R type from the 80s! The controls are ok if slightly slow to respond and all the gameplay is there so it brings back fond memories ! The only issue is the game seems to be sped up a bit it's a lot quicker than what I remember and therefore it comes across as somewhat Glitchy and buggy as well as this the sound in terms of the music is not very good it sounds too tinny and no where near as good as the original arcade game . Also the graphics are not as good as they should be and appear a bit Glitchy and slightly lack frames of animation nowhere near as good as the arcade original and for a Samsung 8 + phone that's ridiculous! Still worth getting if you're a fan of the arcade game a decent conversion

I love r type and this version is not bad. I do wish there was some in-between with the controls. It gives you either an oversized d pad which is horrible as you'd expect, or a much better touch control scheme where the ship follows your finger motion. The second option seems more viable, but it actually changes the gameplay since it gives your ship infinite speed. Why they did this I don't know, it makes it weird and hacky to play since I'm used to the movement speed of the ship.
