Google Authenticator adds an extra layer of security to your online accounts by adding a second step of verification when you sign in. This means that in addition to your password, you'll also need to enter a code that is generated by the Google Authenticator app on your phone. The verification code can be generated by the Google Authenticator app on your phone, even if you don't have a network or cellular connection.* Sync your Authenticator codes to your Google Account and across your devices. This way, you can always access them even if you lose your phone.
* Set up your Authenticator accounts automatically with a QR code. This is quick and easy, and it helps to ensure that your codes are set up correctly.
* Support for multiple accounts. You can use the Authenticator app to manage multiple accounts, so you don't have to switch between apps every time you need to sign in.
* Support for time-based and counter-based code generation. You can choose the type of code generation that best suits your needs.
* Transfer accounts between devices with a QR code. This is a convenient way to move your accounts to a new device.
* To use Google Authenticator with Google, you need to enable 2-Step Verification on your Google Account. To get started visit http://www.google.com/2step Permission notice: Camera: Needed to add accounts using QR codes

Since the last update, the app crashes immediately upon opening, rendering it useless. And judging by other reviews, I'm far from the only one with this issue. Reliability is a must for a security-app and it has failed spectacularly. [EDIT] A few days later, an update has fixed the issue. Increasing my rating, but only to 3* as such basic problems shouldn't happen with such a simple app.

It needs PIN and fingerprint protection. Also, a backup function in case you lose your phone. At least an offline backup which you can move somewhere secure. Also, a "thrash" folder where to move deleted keys, just in case you make the mistake of deleting them without wanting out realising that you still need them. Do this and you'll become one the best apps.

This app is extremely basic and lacks features that other TOTP apps have. It's inconvenient for managing a large number of accounts: since they're just one flat list that can't be searched or sorted, you have to scroll through the entire thing in search of the one you need. Exporting just one account also requires you to manually unselect all the other accounts one by one. Accounts can't be renamed (only the username can be changed) and you can't set custom icons for them. The app can't be protected by a pin or biometrics. On the plus side, the QR code scanner is incredibly fast.

Codes stopped working. So tried to delete and reset the token, but I can't delete tokens! I can only add them. Now I have duplicates that I can't delete. EDIT : swiping left/ right allied you to delete) edit. Not the most intuitive way to do it. Still didn't solve the problem. Couldn't find a way to sync time and date with phone. Found a solution, had to set my phone settings to auto time and date.

Removing the ability to manually sync time in version 7.0 causes problems for me, as my device time is not automatically updated via the internet/network provider. I live near a time zone change and my device can change time depending on exactly where I am, which causes problems itself. Surely it's not hard to leave the ability for the app itself to sync to time servers based on my actual set time zone rather than where my device thinks I am. I've already been locked out of an account once.

It's not the worst authenticator app by any means, and the addition of backup support is a big improvement. However, the interface is severely lacking. There's no ability to adjust the font size or display view, and many entries are difficult to find because important text isn't visible on the screen. Additionally, there's no way to automatically sort or rearrange your entries. You have to manually move them one at a time which is ridiculously cumbersome. Hopefully it gets better!

Congratulations for the last update: enforced "backup" (failed), 3 codes lost (fortunately: 2 obsolete and one easily recovered), the only "backup" option ("export" to a QR code) does not work... I guess this is another project that Google wants to drop as I doubt that after this update anyone will use it. This kind of software does not have to be fancy, but has to be absolutely safe and reliable. Apparently, somebody decided that some UI changes are more important. Good luck with that.

The app has completely failed on my phone. All of the app accounts that I had connected to it, and that demand it's use for 2fa, have disappeared, and I can't even figure out how to reconnect them. It really sucks when you have money in accounts that require an Authenticator generated code to gain access to them so you can transfer or use that money, but instead, you can't do squat! Your money is just stuck there. It's unbelievable!
