Salesforce Authenticator adds an extra layer of security for your online accounts with multi-factor authentication (also known as two-factor authentication). With Salesforce Authenticator, you use your mobile device to verify your identity when logging in to your account or performing critical actions. The app sends you a push notification, and you approve or deny the activity with just a tap. For even more convenience, Salesforce Authenticator can use your mobile device’s location services to automatically approve account activity that you trust. The app also provides one-time verification codes for use while you’re offline or have low connectivity.Use Salesforce Authenticator to secure all your online accounts that support time-based one-time passwords (TOTP). Any service that allows multi-factor authentication using an “Authenticator app” is compatible with Salesforce Authenticator.
Location Data & Privacy
If you enable location-based automation in Salesforce Authenticator, location data is stored securely on your mobile device and not in the cloud. You can delete all location data from your device or turn off location services at any time. Learn more about how the app uses location data in Salesforce Help.
Battery Usage
Rather than getting precise location updates, Salesforce Authenticator only receives updates when you enter or leave the approximate area, or “geofence,” of a location that you trust. By minimizing the frequency of location updates, Salesforce Authenticator conserves your mobile device’s battery life. To reduce battery usage even more, you can turn off location services and stop automating your activity.

What's New
-Automation is enabled by default to approve trusted requests. For security, automation is limited to certain accounts when location is on.
-Einstein icons now indicate automation status. Salesforce ecosystem accounts on the home screen include a blue icon with a check if automation is enabled or gray with an X if it’s disabled. The icon doesn’t show for accounts that can’t be automated. The automation toggle includes a blue icon when automation is on and gray when it’s off.
-We fixed some bugs.

The lack of compatibility with Samsung watches has been extremely frustrating. It worked perfectly on my Apple Watch, allowing quick, seamless authentication without distractions. Now, I’m forced to pick up my phone every time, which disrupts productivity and forces me down rabbit holes like writing this review. Supporting Samsung watches would greatly improve the user experience and help those of us who need quick access without interruptions. Also, STOP asking on the same device/location.

The automation is very finicky. Very often do I get the automation set up, then it fails at random times. It could fail remember the device the same day, a week from now, or 2 months from now. I found that my background data was enabled as it says, but it registers as off sometimes which is why I assume it fails randomly. I have to keep going into the settings, toggle my background data off, then back on again for it to finally work properly.

It works ... sorta. It presents itself as thoroughly modern, even offering location memory. Except, it suffers from early stage dementia. And, when it decides to forget a location previously set as safe (we still love you, Mom), it forces end-users to manually enter the app. Except I can't find it sitting on my phone. I have to seek it in PlayStore. And then I need to start the login process from scratch. Dumb.

The app is fairly inconsistent. When I log into salesfore, I expect a notification on my phone that I can accept to approve the log in. This only works occasionally, most times I have to open the app manually. When I open the app, instead of being brought to the authentication page, I am sent a push notification and have to go to my notifications bar to approve my login. Don't even get me started on the 'trusted locations' feature, it never works. I'd rather be sent an SMS with a code than this.

Does not stay active. Frequently requires that you hunt down the app and leave it open while refreshing the browser to push through to approve. Makes my work take longer because the push notifications going to my phone are inconsistent in their reliability. Annoying to have to have an app that I only use for push notifications to not work for the basic function. Sometimes the approval is instant, requiring a quick glance and tap. Other times, a couple minutes. Would not use if I didnt have to.

> -1 Terrible. Terrible, I go through over three times logging in without success. Multiple tries, I don't see the Approve option. Wasted time. Terrible. Not everyone has a cell phone for their organization. Terrible. Not everyone wants to use their personal cell. It's terrible that you assume your clients are all the same and have access to the same resources. Find a better way that is more user friendly to all your end users. Think more outside the box.

The timeout is super short. I go to answer an email in another tab and it times me out. Super frustrating. And there's no push notification, It requires me to open the app on my phone before I hit the button on my laptop, then go back to my phone to approve it. I'd rather be able to initiate from my browser, then go to my phone once to authenticate. Thanks.

Agree with other users who say this app is buggy and completely inconsistent. It lets you approve a frequent device to automate requests, but you still have to open the app in order for the automation to work. (And sometimes the "automation" is active for a week, sometimes two weeks, sometimes a couple days, before it seems to expire.) Nothing about the "automated" approval is actually, in fact, automated. Often find myself having to go into the app to force approval. Anti-productivity.
