Sky Map is a hand-held planetarium for your Android device. Use it to identify stars, planets, nebulae and more. Originally developed as Google Sky Map, it has now been donated and open sourced.Troubleshooting/FAQ
The Map doesn't move/points in the wrong placeMake sure you haven't switched into manual mode. Does your phone have a compass? If not, Sky Map cannot tell your orientation. Look it up here: http://www.gsmarena.com/
Try calibrating your compass by moving it in a figure of 8 motion or as described here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=k1EPbAapaeI.
Are there any magnets or metal nearby that might interfere with the compass?
Try switching off "magnetic correction" (in settings) and see if that is more accurate.
Why is autolocation not supported for my phone? In Android 6 the way permissions work has changed. You need to enable the location permission setting for Sky Map as described here: https://support.google.com/googleplay/answer/6270602?p=app_permissons_m
The Map is jittery If you have a phone that lacks a gyro then some jitter is to be expected. Try adjusting the sensor speed and damping (in settings).
Do I need an internet connection? No, but some functions (like entering your location manually) won't work without one. You'll have to use the GPS or enter a latitude and longitude instead.

Used to be my favorite. Constantly having to recalibrate the compass gets frustrating and now when you turn on night mode it looks as it should for about half a second then goes so dim you can't see. Increasing phone brightness has no effect. Tried clearing cache and app data and reinstalling but still no joy. Anybody know if this app is being supported for bug fixes?

This app always worked great for me. Still does. Today I thought I should check and see if it needed an update. I found a lot of dissatified users. It is up to date with ver. 1.10.3-RC1, install size 17.92 MB. on my new S24 in June, 24. I persume latest version downloaded when new phone set up because auto update is not enabled otherwise, (my preference).

Update: It works perfectly again! When it works, 5 stars. I'm not sure what happened, except perhaps that I upgraded my Samsung operating system (which seemed to destroy a lot of apps), but this app no longer works well enough to be useful. I used to use it all the time and LOVED it. Now it can never tell what part of the sky it's viewing. I hope someday this will be fixed and I can use it again. Maybe it would still work on older systems.

Worked great for years and I really enjoyed it, but not anymore. I had this app on many phones, but it has consistently failed over the last two installs. The last install would not calibrate no matter what I did and when I put out on a new phone this week, it will move on the manual screen but locks the screen when on auto near "Nadir". I'm sad. Now I have to find another app that will work.

One of the first Android apps I ever downloaded, probably around 2009. I've had it installed on many devices, and sometimes I've forgotten to download it at all. I've never used it for any practical purposes, mostly just for fun to pass a few minutes at night in the spring and summer to help locate constellations. Never had any problems with it; every time I've ever tried to use it, it's worked great. No crashes, doesn't chew up a bunch of data or resources. Does what it's supposed to do.

This app used to be really good. I could point my phone to the sky. And look at planets and figure out where stuff was. lately It does nothing but freeze. I uninstall it and reinstalled it. It's still does nothing. When I open the app, it just locks on one position. Wherever my phone is pointing and stays. It does not move around and show me different parts of the sky. Either need to fix it or do away with his app.

I love this app. It does better on phones with a good magnetometer. You need to let it use your GPS coordinates in the settings and use magnetic correction. Tap the upper right corner of the phone to bring up settings and tap on location settings to tap on gps and magnetic correction. Also have your location on to use gps. Under settings learn to calibrate your phone. Tap the left side of the screen to add planets, stars, etc. Once set up, tap center of phone to begin. Use the app outdoors.

In the beginning, years ago this ap was spot on, very accurate. I've tried installing it on every new phone I get and as with the first install with my 1st smartphone after nearly a year it went bizerck and it's display went upside-down. With each new phone I've downloaded again to see if it would work as it did in the beginning. A complete failure each time! Of course I try to recalibrate it, but to no avail! It has always shown the constellations and star names, but never accurate!
