trainchinese will teach you Chinese, with a free and complete dictionary, thousands of vocab lists, example sentences, audio recordings, measure words and character animations – and a powerful flash card system featuring handwriting training. Join thousands of others who've learned Chinese with trainchinese!★ We're using our very own dictionary, made by bilingual experts in Beijing. It's got 130,000 words and search algorithms that prioritise words that you'll actually want to learn! For example, try searching for "tree" in your existing Chinese dictionary. More than likely you'll see 木 – a character, and not really a vocab word! Search with trainchinese and you'll get 树 ("tree") first and 一棵树 ("a tree") second – now that's useful!
★ Dictionary results include measure words, examples, character animations and even full decompositions so you can see what goes into every character.
★ Partial searches start returning results as soon as you begin typing. If you make a spelling mistake, you'll get suggestions for words you might have meant.
★ Get measure words for thousands of nouns. Tap measure words for full details and access to related searches.
★ trainchinese is great for study, because our words are organised into more than 1,500 word lists covering topics from International Relations to American Football Teams and more. Students of HSK, TOCFL and YCT will feel right at home. Something's missing? We often add new vocabulary lists on request so that everybody can benefit.
★ Whether you're studying the Simplified (mainland China and Singapore) or Traditional (Hong Kong and Taiwan) variants, we've got you covered! Easily switch between them or choose to display both in dictionary results and on flash cards.
★ Create flash cards with audio and animation from dictionary entries. Organise them into lists, and share them with friends (or students).
★ The Spaced Repetition system ensures you'll memorize those words for good.
★ Train however you want: each card is available in four different modes to test different aspects of Chinese study. See Chinese, Pinyin or English and get tested on translation, and even compare your handwriting to a stroke-order animation side-by-side, synchronized!
★ Flash cards are saved on your device and synchronized with trainchinese.com, where you can also train with them and find more great content.
★ Add study notes to your flash cards - they're saved and backed up at trainchinese.com.

What used to be a complete, 5-star app has been updated to something significantly less intuitive and responsive. Enshittification finally caught up to the app. Developers, if you are reading this: LET US REVERT TO THE OLD INTERFACE PLEASE! Having said that, it is still one of the better apps for vocabulary and stroke order. Such a shame how they massacred this thing.

The TrainChinese suit of apps is a great collection of tools to train Mandarin systematically: it's a dictionary (pinyin, hanzi, English, Spanish), a flashcard trainer, it shows how characters are written with the correct strokes sequence, and the accompanying apps are great for training pronunciation, gamifying writing characters, and pinyin pronunciation amongst other functions. It is not a course, but a set of tools complementary to any Mandarin course you do. I'm a life member.

A great resource for learning but I haven't given it 5 stars because one thing about it really irritates me. A message pops up as each mode of flashcard training is completed. This message sits on top of the next card and its poor placement prevents reading the definition until the message fades. A minor thing to be sure but I have had to wait literally thousands of times for this message to disappear as I train. Seems like a minor fix to add a flag to suppress the message.

This is the best chinese learning app I have found. It teaches you how to read and write with stroke order and stroke names. You can learn sentence examples breaking them down by part learning where words are that are composed of one or more characters. It eve breaks down characters into their parts and radicals which gives deeper insight into the subtle differences in the meanings of words.

Great app. Check out pleco. Pleco is by far the most common chinese dictionary app. Advantages of this app over pleco: NATIVE SPEAKER AUDIO Better handwriting & handwriting trainer (assuming u buy premium) DISADVANTAGES: Not as much depth. Flashcard algorithm is worse. This is especially annoying for flashcard sets over 50 If tone colours are turned on, the characters will be coloured to match their tone during flashcards. This means you can't test your tones. Result: get both, use both.

This is one of or if not THE BEST Chinese learning up I've used as far as revision and exercises are concerned. The whole train chinese family of apps is impressive. They were some of my first downloads after I got my new phone, because I just love studying the language. It's an app for lovers of the language. Worth every penny on the inside purchases.

Thank you very much, your apps are really great, but unfortunately, the audio recording of Chinese words is very bad, I mean that the high sound frequencies are completely missing. Note that any sound close to the English letter S is completely missing what it corresponds to in Chinese, the sound is very important, I decided to stop using your application
