The purpose of Swift Mapper is to record the location of nesting swifts around the UK. It will build a picture of where nesting swifts are concentrated, enabling local conservation action for this incredible bird to be focussed in the right places.

All the data submitted will be available to anyone interested in swifts and their conservation, to help them locate swift hotspots in their local area. In this way we hope that Swift Mapper will provide an easy and free to use conservation mapping tool, enabling local authority planners, architects, ecologists, developers, and a wide range of organisations and individuals interested in swift conservation determine where existing swift nest sites need to be protected, and where new nesting opportunities for swifts would be best provided. By doing this, we hope that this data will play an important role in helping to reverse the decline of this charismatic migrant bird.

The font colour is white against a white background on the pop outs when you click on the swift icon, so if it did say anything you can't read it. Also would be good to have a time line to roll backwards and forward to see the rough arrival or sightings, so you can get an idea where and when they might be flying back

Not that great on early impressions. Main criticism is that there appears to be no option to sort sighting data by date. Second, the blurb suggests you want to record nest box locations even before they have been occupied by swifts, but when I try to add details of mine it is impossible to do so without entering a date when swifts were observed. This risks inaccurate data being recorded and undermines any potential scientific value.

Great idea and would love to contribute but the app seems to have issues when setting up an account. I've filled in all fields, entered a password as required, ticked the T&C's, but then the 'sign up' button does nothing. Not a good start!

Had issues, left review, developer got back to me quickly. Seems I am on an early version though only downloaded today. and could not upgrade, though that might just be me. Anyway, I tried again and it worked. Easy to use app and well set out and hopefully will help the swift research.

There seems to be a big problem with the data. The only icons I see on the App are the red crosses, whereas the website shows loads of sighting from tbe past few years.

I downloaded and used the app today. It's a great app and I'm really looking forward to being able to record the local swifts and hopefully learn more about their habitats as well. Well done RSPB.

looking good I just hope this brings together the different conservation groups so that information can be easily shared. who has made this and why exactly is a bit of a mystery though.

No problems with it at all. Works really well. Very easy to add new records. Excellent.
