personalDNSfilter - a DNS filter with encrypted DNS support - for your privacy.

personalDNSfilter is a DNS filter app for Android. It hooks into the domain name (DNS) resolution and blocks access to filtered hosts. It can be used for filtering any unwanted hosts which are related to malware, phishing, tracking and more based on a host list.

It will be an eye opener, when you see the personalDNSfilter live log showing all the different domains accessed from your mobile under the hood.

On Android 4.2 and newer it can be used as effective malware, tracking and ad server filter without root access!

personalDNSfilter is also a DNS changer app, you can set any upstream DNS server you trust. It also supports encrypted DNS servers via DoH (DNS over HTTPS) and DoT (DNS over TLS).

Filtering is completely local - no tracking, no data is sent to us!

You can run it locally on your device or centrally as DNS server in your network.

A big telegram community is already in place, with friendly people
from around the world, willing to support you. ( t.me/pDNSf )

▪ personalDNSfilter is not a real VPN - it does not hide your IP and does not cloak your location
▪ App whitelist works only in VPN filter mode - not in root mode
▪ With personalDNSfilter it's not possible to block YouTube and Facebook ads (and other first party ads). Please use alternative platform clients
▪ We don't collect user data - no data is sent to us in any way

This is pretty damn cool, very useful, and insanely fast.. I use it mostly as a local DNS cache, to speed up browsing, and it works perfectly for that. Other than minor random "your connection was interrupted" when loading some web sites error that occurs from time to time, it's really great! If they can fix that bug and slightly simplify or clean up the interface and options a bit, I would be happy to donate a few hundred $$. 👍

Felt a need to replace Blokada 4 which hasn't been updated for years, and I wanted to ensure I was using current blocklists. pDNSf is better because I can add lists, specify DNS, it doesn't blink in and out when you jump on and off wifi, and uses very few resources. Downsides: the interface is rough and will confuse the non-tech user, DNS setup is needlessly confusing. A widget with a reset-able block counter would be nice. All-told, this is the best ad-blocking option on Android right now.

Finally, an ad blocker that really works for apps. I tried it with two apps that had become unusable due to increasing amount of screen space devoted to ads, and it actually works. It blocks the ad servers like "applovin" and "doubleclick" and only misses a few ads, probably because many ad servers are often renamed to stay ahead of personalDNS. The FAQ talks about "rooting", which I have never understood, but this app works, and that is the bottom line. I'm going to donate to this one!

Near perfect but with some odd omissions. The app appears safe, has extensive customisations, but is also puzzling. Why can I backup and restore configurations but not specify a location? Would be great to export to a chosen path so I can backup to i.e. a NAS. Then be able to select a backup file from any location to restore. It would also be great to have a name to your DNS options rather than the raw string.

There should be a sensible GUI selection of trustworthy DNS providers and filter lists. The current interface is quite unintuitive and completely ignores UI design norms. Better UI design matters in more ways than one, as it makes the app far easier to use, and can reduce the amount of low-effort bad reviews caused by avoidable user confusion. This app is extremely efficient and can be considered a job well done, but still leaves much to be desired in the UI department.

This is a very good app, with flexible settings so you can tailor what gets blocked and what doesn't. So far I have not had any crash or network speed issues issues at all. The app will switch to dark/night mode automatically with your system. And yes it is an eye opener when you view the log and see all of the leaches. Block on!!

Excellent filter. I mainly use the app as it blocks advert, but I don't like to block ads on everything, so could you please add two features. 1. App blacklist 2. Quicksetting tile If you could add these two features, this would be the best filter on the PlayStore, and will definitely be worth 5 stars. Thanks. 😁 Edit: I've found the app blacklist, under Advanced Settings->App Whitelist. A quick setting tile would still be appreciated. Thanks

Very nice. But there is scope for improvement. The developers should make detailed video on each feature. They can add keyword blocking feature. It will make it more robust. I like the ui, it is geeky. I want to know how exactly does the whitelist and blacklist work. I tried to block a few sites using the config additional hosts, but it didn't work. But overall it is very well done. New versions are awaited.
