Freda is a free program for reading electronic books (ebooks) on Windows. Read over 50,000 public domain classic books, free of charge, from Gutenberg and other on-line catalogs. Or read your own (DRM-free) books in the supported formats: EPUB, MOBI, FB2, HTML and TXT.

The program offers customisable controls, fonts and colours, plus annotations and bookmarks, and the ability to look up dictionary definitions and translations, and (new feature) text-to-speech reading. Freda understands EPUB formatting information (bold/italic text, margins and alignment) and can display images and diagrams in books.
Freda can get books from on-line catalogs like the Gutenberg Project. Or if you have an existing book collection, you can use OneDrive, DropBox or Calibre to share it with your phone. Freda can also download books from any website and from email attachments.
You can download books and keep them on your phone, so you can carry on reading when you don't have network connectivity.

Freda is a free, advertising-supported app, displaying advertising at the bottom of its main page. If you don't want to see advertising, there is an in-app purchase option to remove it.

Love it but room for improvement. Feda is my preferred e-reader mainly because it allows me to switch from reading to listening to epubs and there are a great range of accents, pitch and speed options. BUT I can't figure out how to configure this once it is set and sometimes it losses the settings. I wind up reinstalling so I can reset. It would also be great if it was able to continue to read the text while I'm on another screen on my phone, as it does on my laptop. Fingers crossed!

While the extraneous functionality of the app is up to par with other e-readers (backups, synchronization, sourcing and e-catalogs), the actual reading experience is abysmal. Whether it be power requirements, separate development, or poor optimization, Freda on the desktop is a wonderful experience, while the Android counterpart is a choppy, unresponsive mess. FBreader should be something the devs aspire to. Lacking basic font-smoothing? Come on. You can do better. I believe in you. Love, hun

Freda has been my one and only go-to for reading ebooks because I can alternate from my PC to my phone easily. I love the user friendly interface too. However, I use my OneDrive as the source and for syncing my books across devices, yet as of late, Freda keeps bugging whenever I try to log on to my OneDrive, so I cannot read my books and sync my books anymore. I really hope something is done about this, since I very much would like to continue using Freda.

Just downloaded it. So far, I love it! It's syncing across all three devices. I wish it merged via Dropbox instead of OneDrive. And I can't seem to get it to connect to my Dropbox as a source. Lastly, which dictionary app is recommended for the Android version? Other than that, it's the best e-reading app I've found.

Good app but bad UI. I wanted a reader on my android which has the read aloud feature and this app name came to my mind since I use it on my pc. I had high hopes. But, I was rather disappointed. The UI could be a lot better. It felt like the app from pc was replicated as it is to Android. Controls were too much, more than half my screen is covered by it. And also, it would be nice if you could name the AI voice as "US Man 1" instead of "en-us-x-tpf-local" which makes it a bit confusing.

Hi!! I love this app very much and I've been using it through all my devices! It's just great and functional and so customizable. But recently i couldn't change the font of my books 😔 I don't know why. It keeps being the Georgia font, and my eyes get very tired very fast from it. The only thing that corresponded to the font change is a page numbers. I tried uninstalling and reinstalling it back, but it didn't work 😞 Please send help ✋😭

Easy to use, plenty of functionality, great free and adverts are not intrusive. Keeping reading position across devices is patchy, feels like an optional login system would help with that but it's a minor issue as I don't change devices often. Highly recommended. Also the name amuses me.

Maximum customizable option. No ereader app on android that even come close to freda in this area. Perfect with dualscreen usage on LG V60 with two column option in portrait. The only complaint is that it get significantly slow at times and it do not resume at the previous page but automatically return to the beginning when open via other app (I use calibre as book library and this one as ereader, none other ereader has this problem so it's probably fixable).
