However, its future is threatened by neglect, environmental degradation, and pressure for housing development. Te Motu Kairangi and Matai Moana are prominent features of Te Whanganui-a-Tara (Wellington Harbour), greeting visitors of our city by air or by sea while being visible from most places in the city. Thus saving, protecting and restoring the natural features, historic sites, and native birds and other wildlife that reside there is therefore important to all Wellingtonians.
