FocusReader is an modern RSS reader designed to provide the best Android reading experience possible. It will manage your feeds by either storing them locally (using OPML import) or seemlessly integrating with all of the major aggregator services (including Feedly, Inoreader, The Old Reader, Feedbin, Bazqux, Tiny Tiny RSS, FreshRSS, and Fever).

Basic, completely free features include:

• Get article summaries through AI, can set different prompts for each feed
• a full-screen reading experience
• a pure reading mode that streamlines article content into a clean reading layout
• podcast support
• article translation
• gesture navigation to painlessly swipe through subsequent articles, star articles, mark read, view images, open in browser, activate readability mode, or copy/share links
• light and dark themes
• full article caching for offline reading
• magazine, card, and list views
• user-defined reading settings (multiple fonts, font size, line height, line spacing, line justification)
• sync on open, sync on demand, or optional background sync
• per-feed customization settings
• easy new feed search and add; just type in a term you're interested in and you'll be presented with tons of feeds to choose from
• built-in image viewer/downloader
• integration with Pocket, Evernote, and Instapaper
• mark articles as read either manually or on rollover
• article sorting either ascending or descending so that you're presented with content in the chronological order you prefer
• fully support using external browser custom tabs for seemless viewing of articles that are difficult to parse
• high-definition favicons for all feeds
• optional navigation using volume buttons

We feel that continued development is best supported long-term by a subscription model. This enables FocusReader to be in continuous development, addressing bugs quickly and always adding features. Those who choose to subscribe can use the following additional features:

• user-defineable light, dark, and AMOLED themes, as well as auto-dark mode,
• complete subscription management - delete and rename feeds and folders,
• filter out or retain articles using keywords
• ability to open a feed's article using its corresponding app (for example: a YouTube feed can be set to open in the YouTube app)
• ability to add an unlimited number of accounts
• ability to backup app data locally or to Google Drive, DropBox, or OneDrive to save your setup for easy future restoration or share settings across devices
• intelligent automatic ad-removal from synced Inoreader accounts
• automatic duplicate article removal based on article title or URL
• a "Today" view that will show articles from the last 24 hours
• ability to cache images during sync (enhancing your offline reading)
• full-text article search
• Readability support that will fetch full article text into the app from partial RSS feeds; 3 different Readability engines are provided (native, Feedbin, and advanced)

I have been looking for a replacement for g reader for a long time. I came across this app and I can't express how great it is. With features like offline reading, newsfeed selection, quick and responsive features, plus a truly responsive developer willing to make changes based on customer feedback. All provide a great user experience and is a breath of fresh air in what normally can be frustrating user experiences. Definitely my go-to app for newsreading.

Make sure you disable "Auto cache images background during sync", developer runs this on main UI thread rather than a background process and is responsible for locking up the UI and making it unusable. Aside from that issue, the pending widget and the global article options, that would make this the best RSS reader in the Google Play Store right next to Reeder 5 on Apple.

One either has to put up with obnoxious, pestering advertisements or pay recurring subscription fees ad infinitum, because there is no possibility to acquire the 'Pro' functionality once and for all. I found three alternatives that do not bleed the customer dry, because they can be bought instead of rented, and since they cost less to buy than what this software charges customers month after month, year after year, they replaced this milkingware, which has consequently been uninstalled.

I really want to like this app. I did wind up going for the Pro version because I liked it initially. However, I'm finding issues with some RSS feeds not updating as frequently as they should. For instance, a daily quotations page that I have verified updates daily lies dormant in FocusReader, and syncing does not do anything. Yet on other readers, it is updated properly. I wound up importing all I wanted from Feedly and Inoreader, but would be nice to be able to combine them easily.

Not bad. Straightforward and easy, somewhat lacking in features, but actively improving. Still lacks a widget, notifications of updates, and most advanced features, and while I'm not at all a fan of the subscription approach to unlocking features, that's the dev's choice. May need to fuss with battery optimization to get it to sync in background, depending on device, but that's an Android issue.

Good app, bar a handful of UI quirks: (1) think it would benefit a feed navigation menu accessible across views; (2) the text colour of read items in feed lists is far too dark (in dark mode), especially if you need to search through long lists of read items - a subtle badge for unread items might work better; (3) would be great to be able to import an updated OPML without completely overwriting the current one... Lifetime purchase opt could also be good. Just my 2 pence - otherwise a great app

I have been using this for a couple years now, and apart from some article list swipe gesture unreliability, everything this app does seems to work just fine. Nice job! Please remove "ad-free" from the store page's description, though -- not only are there ads, there are modal video+audio ads, the worst kind an app can show. What a waste of perfectly good cellular data. Thankfully, these appear to be squashable with a quick purchase that I am happy to do because it is not a subscription.

So far so good. Although two problems right at the beginning. (I) The description still says: "FocusReader is an ad-free, modern RSS reader..." but it's not ad-free, unless you go for a paid subscription. (II) The initial caching of the images pretty much paralyzes the app for a while if you have a larger collection. Otherwise five stars for now, although I haven't used the app much yet, so this might change. Let's see...
