It's better than most in that it is simple, but it could get MUCH better at its stated purpose if it didn't waste my time on words that are essentially the same in French and English (and there are a lot of those, perhaps some 50%)

I stumbled upon tobo while looking for a simple but entertaining app to boost my vocab, and I like it. If you want to start from scratch, this app may not be for you, though. Positive aspects include: - simple flashcard style vocab introduction (partly with small illustrations) - automatic audio play - quizzing with not just the stereotypical multiple choice but also type in questions (you can type nouns with or without articles) - favourite terms can be quizzed separately - 4 types of rather self explanatory games that add a little fun to the learning process Negative aspects include: - an awful lot of ads in the free version - cannot be used across devices (unless paid for?) - a couple mistakes or misleading translations - inconsistent article usage (e.g. "le pôle Nord" but "pôle Sud"; Why?) - it has only 3500 terms (some more useful than others) The limitation of only 3500 terms bothers me most. I want to study even more words while using the same features I have come to like so much. Note for beginners: This app does NOT feature the most basic vocabulary, hence you should learn those prior to using the app. The substantial lack of example sentences (in the free version) makes contextual application rather difficult and may therefore not be very beginner friendly. Conclusion: A lovely app with good potential, but it is almost spoiled by the flood of ads and the very small amount of vocab it provides. It could be awesome if they would greatly extend the number of vocab terms and/or allowed custom built decks with imported materials.

On the good side: Excellent app for French vocabulary. Simple to use interface Lots of words ( about 3450 ) Probably a good choice of words. Has multiple meanings for some words. Can go through any or all the words in "Learn" at any one time. I tried a number of other app's and this one suited my desire to learn vocabulary the best. On the less that best side: The odd word is mistranslated A few words or more have very questionable pronunciation; of particular note are words that begin with the letter "c". In "Learn" the "Words 70" remains locked even though I have completed all other words and all the "Practice". In "Learn" when you make a mistake a popup occurs. In this popup when you want to hit the "X" to cancel and retry the "X" touch area is overly small making it somewhat hard to touch correctly ( at least for me ). When a French word appears multiple time one of the meanings is often obscure. Quite a few ad's. Can be irritating especially when trying to proceed quickly. In "Practice" when you have gone through a large number of words ( more than 50..100? ) it can become confused and speak a word meant for a different work. Some words are spoken too softly to hear a normal volume setting. Observations (not negative or positive) Not useful to learn grammar Not useful to learn conjugations Beginner level. Lots of room for additional functionality while still keeping a simple interface. E.g. 1: verbs, when clicked, link to conjugation of say the 5 most popular tenses(present, future, passe compose, imperfect, and conditional). E.g. 2: non-verbs, when clicked link to a lemma(base form) which shows any other derived words ( in English the lemma might be "beauty" with derived words being "beauties", "beautiful", and "beautifully" and possibly even "beautify".

Five stars at least till I get to know it better. The ads or mildly intrusive but not bad considering how well the program works so far. The ads are pop-ups that cover the screen and require you to either listen or push the cancel button. however while they pop up frequently they don't pop up after every step and they do have a mute button. Developers must pay for their time and effort somehow...

This is the best vocabulary app for french learning and I've tried many others. There are ads if you don't buy the full version, but the ads are bearable and only come between sets of words instead of interrupting you in the middle. I have one suggestion though for improvement which might work: You could include prepositions with the verbs so that they would be learned at the same time. Thank you for a great app!

I've used different apps on and off for vocabulary, but this is the best one I think. It has different games you can play for practice, which makes learning new vocabulary engaging and fun. Almost everything is free from what I have seen so far, so that's also a big plus. There are quite a bit of ads, but they're only 5 seconds long and not that intrusive so it doesn't bother me.

This flashcard app actually seems to understand the point of flash cards; it should be fast, convenient and require little preparation. Very very good so far, will update once I have more experience with it. Update 1: the Numbers section is not great; one must literally go through each, one at a time, flipping and dismissing. There are specific numbers I would like to drill fast, especially in the 80s and 90s. Oooh boy am I ever not thrilled about having to tap +160 times for that.

Very good app to expand your vocabulary and practice the words regularly. Love that you can review each word by difficulty of memorizing and the sentences given as examples. The extra cards which become available when you reach the level could need improvement by turning them into flashcards as well and wished that you could extend the 5 word in one go rule to more words.
