When Verizon's Message+ app was discontinued recently, I was forced to switch to a new app. Message+ recommended Google Messages, so I tried it, but I didn't like it at all, and I especially didn't like its icon. I read about Textra in a forum and have been pleased with it so far. While there are some minor differences, the settings can be modified to closely resemble the appearance of Message+, which is all I was looking for. One small downside is that(the free version,at least) has banner ads.

Easy Transition and Customizable... but missing 3 features. High def sending photos (a must these days), encryption from point to point, and a way to request data deletion (I just didn't see it if it has a way to request). With those, it would be damn near perfect!!! If it had encryption capabilities and some way to send high def photos, I would rate it a 5. I just noticed it wants a lot of access to our info. I will compare it to others and re-review it if excessive.

I started using this app in 2016, and I absolutely love it. The customization options are fantastic; I assign different color text bubbles to each contact, making it easy to see who said what in conversations. I also have a 5-second delay for sending messages, which helps me catch typos before they go out. Plus, the ability to schedule messages is a game changer. If I wake up at night with something to share, I can set a text to send at 8 AM.

After the most recent update. All my photos fail to send, even small (300K) one's fail!! I've rebooted, forced stop, but nothing has fixed it!! One ⭐ Update: the developers contacted me. After a lot of testing and resetting things, it's back to working again. And, even though I have set things back to their original settings, it continues to work. I'm not sure what actually did the trick, but I'm happy again. Many thanks to the Dev team for spending the afternoon working with me. Now 5 ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐

This is the best texting app I have ever used. It is easy and very customizable. It is kept up to date and generally error free. If I could lower the score from 5.0 I would lower it to 4.9 because of an annoyance that has appeared in the latest version. It has begun occasionally giving the notification "sensitive notification content hidden". I have text to voice for notifications (earbud only). This feature is blocking me from hearing verification codes as I work on my computer.

Really used to love this app, have recommended to numerous people and have been a looong time user. But I think it's time to move on. It's getting extremely frustrating when very few of my mms messages successfully come through until hours or days later. Maybe it is a service issue, but in briefly trying Google messages (which I loathe), everything worked smoothly and seemlessly, which is a really nice change. I want something reliable and dependable.

Textra is so much better than what was originally on my phone. I had no idea how bad it was until I switched. At first I was annoyed that Verizon was dropping their texting app but now I'm glad they did or I wouldn't have found this one. It's easier to use, more intuitive, let's me do reactions, makes chat groups easier to manage, all the features I need and they work better!

10/29/24 - I do not like the new update for selecting images/videos. You now have to check a circle on the content and "choose" it instead of just tapping on the content as previously done. Easy app to use with cool features. I like the customization options for each conversation. Very user friendly.I did pay for the pro version to get rid of ads. I mean, Its not that expensive! ..still using in 2025. Started using this app in 2017! Customer service is quick & friendly.
