Well I was having problems getting kicked out of the app occasionally. So I uninstalled and reinstalled. About 8 times. The app now just comes up with a Slate cover, then a blank white screen. Nothing. I don't get it, why can't Slate build an app?

I'm updating my review after having deleted their first terrible app and uploading this one. It's not much better, folks. It's just basically a watered down version of the web page. The app has no ability to play the games, watch the videos, or listen to the audio content. Its obviously not designed for a smaller screen, or easy navigation. Put a little effort into it, guys

I pay a premium for Slate. The app is dysfunctional. I am constantly asked to sign in mid article and then redirected to the front page or receive an error and have to restart my app. The podcast player is a joke you can hardly pause or rewind and can't see where you are. The search engine is just ads and doesn't find anything even if you search exactly the name of an article. It's so frustrating because I like Slate's journalism and entertainment, but I have such a hardtime accessing it.

One extra star because I do enjoy some of the content, but this app is barely functional. When clicking on a link to another story in the app, it instead opens in Chrome (and prompts a sign in). Almost every time I open it, it asks me to approve cookies. It send me push alerts but when I click on them nothing happens. Searching is difficult. Do better Slate!

When read on my android phone, it is far too easy to click on the ads as you scroll by, almost impossible to avoid them. I do not have this problem on any other app. So, although I do not have a pet, I guess it keeps showing me pet product ads because of all the times I got into them by accident? Makes the app almost unusable, but I guess they can charge the advertisers for the clicks... Journalism good, app unbearable.

Well, the new app is always completely blank. It send me notifications, but if I open it, nothing. Just the "Slate" heading and a bunch of unclickable white space underneath. Edited: I reinstalled and chose "accept all cookies" even though I don't want your damn cookies. The app now works. One star for giving me a "choice" of either options I don't want or a completely unusable app. Three stars for the content after you lost most of the best writers. Average it out to two.

I love slate, but this app isn't even usable. It's used to work just fine, even if it was just a basic iframe of the website. Now when I open it, it's blank, except for a header at the top. Uninstall/reinstall, force stopping, clearing cache...nothing seems to make this app work. A subscription is so expensive, the least that can be expected is a functional app.

Could be better, could be worse. The app functions if you open it directly. If you are trying to read an article via a link (say from Google's newsfeed) it's completely broken. Once the link opens the app, the app "forgets" you're logged in but also won't let you log in to read the article. Also, not all sections are listed in the menu. It could really use drop-down menus so you can chose directly rather than relying on search or headers. Would love a way to favorite categories.
