Zulip is pretty good, but the Android app is not great. Loading messages on startup and refresh is very slow, showing the loading screen for dozens of seconds, but the app is otherwise 4--5 stars.

Might be the best alternative for Slack with some features missing on mobile part. So I hope the product would come even more powerful and robust after commercializing the notifications. Thanks.

Unfortunately they dont support selfhosting like they say they do. They are very connected to AWS (definitely not someone you trust with your data if you arent a rich fool) and they dont support self hosting like they claim in their documentation, their docker hasn't been updated in half a decade, dont believe the hype! Not been updated since dropbox bought them. You would think it would be prioirity, to try and be better than discord or slack, but they aren't really trying to set apart.

Had to pull back on using this great app because we're doing away with google play services, so message delivery/retrieval is not possible, unfortunately. Hopeful one day it can work reliably without google play services(please). Great app. Thank you for everything. Missing a lot of features, like a new message notification while in a chat. Customization needed, themes, profile pics. Needs a better layout - opening the app to all chats 1st.

Loved this app. Used it a lot for various projects. But since this release the mobile Android version has totally stopped working. As you start it, it just sticks on a white screen. Sent a message to the developers. They asked me to debug it, which given I am not a developer is not something I have done before, but was willing to try. The instructions were so incomplete, that after several messages and no real help in getting it to work I have given up. No reply on how to install an old version

I've been a power user for years. it does miss some functionality from the other clients. However I believe these will be added with the upcoming Android rewrite. Meanwhile this app is part of my daily productivity, combined with a self-hosted zulip server. It's stable and fast and powerful. Thank you Team Zulip!

It's ok, but navigation could be improved in various places. The single biggest issue is the multiple taps required to switch organizations and no indications for unread messages in organizations before opening them. There should be one tap (or swipe) that brings up a tappable list of all organizations and an indicator as to whether there are any unread messages.

The service itself is great, but the Android app is mediocre at best. It's confusing to navigate, and apart from a dark mode has next to no configuration options. Also, it looks nothing like the screenshots, which looks like a much better app! There's no sidebar to navigate the streams and topics, and no Material Design look, all of which are present in the screenshots. Is this even the same app? The Android app needs serious work to bring it in line with the web interface.
