iOrienteering allows you to create and time races which involve navigation or passing through checkpoints.

You can use QR codes to create a physical course or GPS to create a course with no physical controls at the points to be visited. On these GPS courses, the app can work in the background, so your phone can be put away in a bag or rucksack, allowing you to time a race without having your phone out. The app is designed to be robust and reliable.

An updated dashboard serves the new version of the app. PLEASE NIOTE: The full website needs a wide screen to look at the maps when creating or editing a course, so it only works on a computer or laptop. On the website version for mobile phones, most functions are turned off, as you need a wide screen to design courses visually.

The event map can be displayed in the app for runners to use, or it can be hidden, allowing the phone to be used solely for timing, while the participants use a paper map or similar tool.

In addition to normal 'checkpoints,' we have now added 'breakpoints' which pause the clock during an event. These allow for safety breaks, for example, to facilitate an untimed road crossing. They can be used in other ways, for example, to create a break for a food stop or a kit check.

Warnings can be turned on or off. The warnings provide users with feedback if they attempt to proceed to a checkpoint out of order. Great for beginners and helpful to users, but not necessary in proper competitions.

Results can be uploaded to the website more reliably and then viewed easily on the app or website.

Sub-accounts can be created and linked to the main account. We only need basic information for a sub-account, making them ideal for schools, families, or groups where one person manages the users.

Courses can be copied- Make a large, private event containing all your checkpoints, then copy this course multiple times to create individual courses from this master course. Delete the controls you will not need and sort the remaining controls into the correct order.

The basic app still works well offline - you don't need a mobile signal at the event centre for the app to function as a timing device, but extra additional features are available in areas with good mobile coverage.

On a course with 13 controls, the app worked fine until control 12. For some reason it reset, and offered only to start a new course. The course I was on was there in the Results tab, showing as "Incomplete". My biggest frustration is that there is no way to restart that course, to complete it. I wish the app hadn't stopped, but I understand apps can hit unexpected errors. But what is really necessary is that there be a way to restart the app and restart the course you were in the midst of.

Worked well on a road cycling events (100 Climbs Challenges) in the Peak District. The scanner picks up the event placards well and had no issues with the checkpoints being logged. The map was really useful as well, when I thought I had gone wrong - tiny tweaks to suggest - make the markers on the map larger and stand out more for us old folks without our reading glasses on. Allow the map to rotate to the direction you're facing would also help. Thanks

A great app that works well as a user friendly introduction to orienteering. I was able to build and run courses very quickly, with only the smallest of learning curves. And a very responsive developer, if any questions occur.

Using it for MTBO courses in the covid restricted world. Good website for designing courses, and good app functionality. GPS issues are unavoidable in the world of phones, so use the QR codes for competition, but nice to have the option of the 2 different approaches to control placement.

New version is excellent! Looks very professional, and is a big step up from the previous. I am the main e-services admin for the Florida Orienteering Club (FLO), and we are now using iO for all our self-service courses that we're putting up during the Coronapocalypse when we aren't allowed to have in-person events. Highly recommend it.

Constantly has problems with GPS, I dunno why after closing the app it still shows that it's using camera. Like if it's trying to spy... Starting zones also triggers ending (tho on other phones it doesn't happen)

Able to register now without having changed anything, thank you dev team for a quick response. I will update the review once I use the app later this month. --------------------- Not even able to register, the app insists that there is no internet or WiFi, even though there is.

Lowering the rating. For reasons I don't understand (and can not reproduce consistently) it happens quite often that the app "forgets" I'm in a middle of an event and exits.
