Jami, a GNU package, is software for universal and distributed peer-to-peer communication that respects the freedom and privacy of its users.

Jami is the simplest and easiest way to connect with people (and devices) with instant messaging, audio, and video calls over the Internet and LAN/WAN intranets.

Jami is a free/libre, end-to-end encrypted, and private communication platform.

Jami is open-source software that prioritizes user privacy.

Jami has a professional-looking design and is available for a wide range of platforms. Unlike the alternatives, Jami calls are directly between users, as it does not use servers to handle calls.

This gives the greatest privacy, as the distributed nature of Jami means your calls are only between participants.

One-to-one and group conversations with Jami are enhanced with instant messaging, audio and video calling, recording and sending audio and video messages, file transfers, screen sharing, and location sharing.

Jami can also function as a SIP client.

Multiple Jami extensions are available: Audio Filter, Auto Answer, Green Screen, Segmentation, Watermark, and Whisper Transcript.

Jami can be easily deployed in organizations with the JAMS (Jami Account Management Server), allowing users to connect with their corporate credentials or create local accounts. JAMS allows you to manage your own Jami community while taking advantage of Jami’s distributed network architecture.

Jami is available for GNU/Linux, Windows, macOS, iOS, Android, Android TV, and web browsers, making Jami an interoperable and cross-platform communication framework.

Manage multiple SIP accounts, Jami accounts, and JAMS accounts with the Jami client installed on one or multiple devices.

Jami is free, unlimited, private, advertising‑free, compatible, fast, autonomous, and anonymous.

For people who complain about it not working or messages not being delivered instantly. 1. Disable DHT proxy 2. Disable push notification 3. Enable Jami to be run in back ground. 4. Visit your phone's battery optimisation and make sure Jami is not optimised for battery - if not the phone will kill the app and when you reopen the app to send - nothing happens 5. Enable TURN 6. Disable STUN After doing all this - it will work like a charm unless you have some other network issues. There are bugs but the app is stable and does the job. For people complaining about images/files not being transferred - drag and drop doesn't work - it is a known bug. So as a work around you can go to the file using file explorer on Android choose the file and share using Jami - this works.

I had to leave a review because this app has gone downhill. It defeats the purpose of a messaging app. You want to message someone in real-time without having to pay texting or data, especially if they live overseas. I have undelivered messages 90% of the time. Support. There's no support unless you're a GITLab developer. They don't respond to emails and their support on Twitter is awful. They're one of the few companies who doesn't allow DMs on there.

Has big potential, it has everything you would expect a chat app to have besides group text chats at this time. From trying it out on a Pixel 2, it didn't significantly impact battery life while still receiving push notifications. The desktop app has a rather large minimum window size however, and sent messages only appear on the device you send from. Received messages work fine though.

Thank you for making this great app available for free. Bugs that I found: 1. I editted a group name but the name stays the same (group name edit fails). 2. Can't send message to the group in the 1st open of the app. After restarting the app, the problem is gone. It's using the macOS app (version 2024.08.18)

LATEST VERSION AFTER UPGRADING HAS A BUG WHERE CALL IN RING BUT NO POPUP METHOD TO ANSWER APPEARS Many bugs on android, so far... 1. When calling on SIP, app (caller) does not hear ring tone (pure silence) but callee endpoint hears ring 2. Saving contacts name/desc. does not work 3. No integration with phone contacts (unless I'm not doing it right)

I'm not going to hammer on Jami. When I can get it to work it's a joy. I'm having a hard time right now because it just stopped period. BUT that has to be o.k. I will figure it out. It was working for me and it will again. I just need to get my head around it. The world needs Jami so there is a free way to communicate. Jami needs more users so the network grows and becomes more reliable while the knowledge gene pool grows deeper and wider. Nothing worth having comes easily.

Please fix the notification thingy 🙏! I've already convinced 4 of my family members to switch to Jami knowing it respects privacy. I couldn't even receive any message at all! I was able to receive and initiate calls. But when I turned on my camera, my camera's view is stretch vertically. It's very annoying. And please add a built-in voice recorder. My phone does not comes with any voice pre-installed recorder. Even if I installed one, Jami doesn't recognize it. Please! I want to only use Jami!

Mostly good and useful app. Multiplatform text voice and video ok file transfers never seem to work for me on any platform. Does not like "advanced" network setups on local area networks . While it works well with text on multihomed hosts I have had some reliablity issues with the more webrtc type protocols. I still recommend this app in any case. +++++++
