Palace is a free, easy-to-use e-reader app that lets you find, check out, and read or listen to books from your local library. It’s been said that libraries are “palaces for the people” and the Palace app gives you instant access to your local “palace” any time, right from the palm of your hand.
All you need to sign up is your library card! And even if your library isn’t using Palace yet, you can still read more than 10,000 books--from children’s books to classics to foreign language books--for free from our Palace Bookshelf.
The Palace app is built and maintained by The Palace Project, a not-for-profit division of LYRASIS working in partnership with Digital Public Library of America with funding from the John S. and James L. Knight Foundation. For more, visit https://thepalaceproject.org.

App is very buggy. Locks up a lot. Asked for card number just to return a book. Have to reinstall it to get it to function properly. Edit: no longer makes me enter my card number to return but still locks up numerous times during each book. I need to close the app, clear the cache and reopen. Upon restarting it loses the spot where it locked up and returns to the previous location it was upon opening. Not good for driving because of this and just plain frustrating even when not driving.

I came to check on an update because I was hopeful the glitches were being fixed. Alas, nothing yet. I find when the screen times out, and I open the book to read, it takes me back to a random place several pages back. I then have to turn the pages to find my place. This happens all the time since I havent figured out any way to make the screen not go dark if I havent turned the page fast enough. Please fix these problems.

Logs me out randomly. When I log back in, it has not saved my place and I have to find where I left off. Update: App will stop playing while listening. I have to close it completely and reopen. It's slow to load when I do. Then it picks up from before I had picked up last. I spend a lot of time trying to find where I left off.

This is the worst audio app in the store. It won't play in the background, it's not compatible with android auto and I frequently resumes playing 10 minutes behind my position in the audiobook. I'm not one to complain about free stuff but I would rather pay for my audiobooks than deal with the frustration of trying to use this app and being locked out of the rest of my phone if I want to listen to something. Cmon. You can do better.

Our tax dollars are paying for this app. Unless you are NOT charging our libraries for your service, do better, Place Project! No way to search nor select a series, no info on which book in a series one is looking at, no way to sort by release date, no way to have multiple library cards, as you can only access your already borrowed content if you entirely delete other cards. Not even the most basic UX. They skimped on designers who understand usability and went straight into development.

App's ebooks work fine but the audio book player is BAD. Will stop playing books in the middle of sentences w/o saving place in book. You have to go into app and reopen book and search for where you are manually, which makes it useless for listening while driving. Also, app leaves a "no audio book is playing" notification on your phone after it does this, even if you close app, and you have to restart your phone to get it to go away. And now audio books won't play at all.

As an audiobook enthusiast, I would like to express my appreciation for this app and its potential. However, I believe a few additions could greatly enhance my listening experience. Firstly, it would be beneficial to have some form of indicator to identify book series, making it easier to navigate and follow a series. Secondly, I suggest incorporating a feature that allows users to take notes or keep track of authors and books they follow or wish to read in the future

I've been using this to read short ebooks and my experience so far has been good. It's quick to download the book and pick back up from where you left off. It's very convenient for reading on the go. Im not sure if I just haven't figured out the search functions out yet, but I hope it gets expanded upon to make search results more refined.
