First released in 2011, Relay has been consistently developed over the past decade by the same third party developer.Relay has been a subscription-based app since since September 2023 when Reddit introduced a monthly fee for 3rd party developers to access its API.
There are multiple price plans to choose from depending on your usage. More than 75% of Relay's users pay (USD) 1$ or 2$ dollars per month for a beautiful, ad-free experience with no trackers and a pure Frontpage made up of only the subreddits you subscribe to.
Highlights:
• Relay's design closely follows Google's 'Material You' standards giving you the same color palette as the rest of your phone, including night mode and an OLED blackout theme.
• Animations are sprinkled throughout the app and are based on physical springs which makes them much smoother then traditional Android animations.
• Links and comments load at the same time; a simple swipe switches between them.
• Comprehensive Moderator features (distinguish, sticky posts, ban users etc)
• Swipe to vote
• Rich text editor
• Advanced comment navigation - next/previous thread, find words, IAMA and more!
• Multiple accounts supported
• Subreddit and key word filtering available
• Extensive customisation options including font style and size, left-handed viewing.
Relay for reddit is a time-honored way to browse the news and entertainment of the hour. Whether you're a casual 'lurker', power user, or even a moderator, Relay's design makes reddit viewing a pleasure.

It's not without problems, but this app has the best layout for Reddit I've seen. Can't find a bug report function, but there's been a persistent issue I've had with it where saving an image takes upwards of 3 minutes, no matter the size. A new issue is that if you try to bookmark a subreddit it asks if you want to remove it as a bookmark, even if you've never bookmarked it. Then it says it's been added, and when you go check it isn't there. Needs a lot of work, but I'll keep paying

10/19/2024 This is the best Reddit app I've found after Reddit ruined everything with their API changes. It is excellent in many ways, including tons of customization options, optional auto-muting of videos and GIFs, easy image dismissal, and zooming into GIFs. I wish it made it easier to open links versus comments, easier to switch between the two (swiping down from the top is awful, it's too close to the native Android gesture), and showed explicitly the URLs of external links.

EDIT: It was still acting the same but after the third reinstall and update notification, it seems to be working again. Thank you for taking the time to troubleshoot and help! ~~~~~ It's a good app, but since charging money, it acts like I haven't paid every time my subscription renews, yet the money has charged my account. It won't let me do anything and I couldn't find a way to contact the dev.

I have used this app for a number of years. I hate how that reddit now charges for things. Anyway, I renewed my subscription yesterday and then I get charged twice for trying to renew my subscription in the same day. On top of that, I can't get past the renew subscription screen even though it's verified. Please fix and advise. I want my money back too!

Occasionally the app prompts me to renew my subscription midway through my current one. I can't leave this page until I agree to renew and some times this results in a subscription double charge, which the dev refunded later. Other than this bug, the app is wonderful and I've been using it daily for several years. Updates and bug fixes are frequent. If not for this bug, I'd give it 5 stars. To their credit, Reddit sprung this requirement on them and they've done a good job at adapting to it.

Loved the app for years... Updated design is alright but kind of broken. Day theme intermittently will have black cards for posts. Something feels off about the new layout with text and spacing. Honestly kind of miss the old classic one, now it looks a lot more like the official reddit app which I dislike... I do like how it can pull from the system theme, but wish black/dark gray was an option for the day theme in the drop down - pretty sure that was a choice previously and was what I had...

Excellent frontend client for reddit, definitely surpasses the official app with its sleekness and simplicity. Been my go to for years, and it's definitely worth the small API costs (for me, $2.50/mo) if you use it regularly. Felt compelled to finally write a review after the recent UI enhancements. Just gorgeous, and really brings it up to a modern aesthetic standard. Great app! Highly recommended, and my complements to the developers.

UPDATE Response: Nope my account is enabled on the website, on the app. Nothing fixes this issue. The main feed filters any nsfw labeled post out. On my feed on the pc at the exact same time I can see them. The app is child locked despite having settings enabled to not be. Only fix is to constantly restart the app, clear cache, and stay logged out. Been an issue for over a year.
