Useful for getting a group of people onto the same page when planning a hike, makes it easier to pick the right one for your capability and time available, has an offline mode and you can customise the walks. I like the gear list function too. Great tool for exploring Aotearoa!

I can see by the reviews that some people are having issues with noting their walk information on the app so hopefully that feature gets sorted. I haven't tried that yet but it's been great to discover the different walks available, the weather for the day, the stamina level you need for the different walks. I think it's wonderful to have this safety feature especially when you a beginner like me

The app is basically unusable, doesn't remember the dates you set for your trip. Adding people you are traveling with removes your emergency contact. Needs internet to work, making it useless for holding documents such as bookings, transport etc. Won't let you add a contact without a last name (firstly, those people exist, secondly, why not? Why do you need a surname?).
Mobile Devices
Useless really. Weather function is good but track information is incorrect and dangerous. E.g. Charming Creek shows full track starting in Hector though a dangerous slip has part closed it 2 years ago. It is now two tracks. Remutaka Rail Trail map (18km) route showing as Featherston to Summit when in fact it is Maymorn to Summit from Upper Hutt side. Not at all a good look for Mountain Safety Council. Appears to be a rush job to get an app with severe defects out. No offline ability either

I have visited New Zealand two separates times now, once in 2007 and once this year (2024). I wish I Plan My Walk had been available to me in 2007! It is a great resource and helped us to have a great time by selecting walks that were beautiful, appropriate for our fitness and skill levels. Cannot wait to get back to New Zealand in 2026, have so many others tracks to try thanks to Plan My Walk.

Extremely limited amount of walks listed verse the amount of available walks in new Zealand. For a safety council app it's extremely poor. This app should be Miles ahead of where it currently is. Clumsy to use and not user friendly. I should be able to set a starting point and a destination point and then plan the walk . From there I should be able to gage the times required to walk the route and plan it better. Currently the app in reality doesn't really help plan my walk... Uninstalled the app

This app SHOULD NOT BE USED as the information is unreliable and unsafe and could result in users getting into difficulty. The weather information was loaded four days ago and is totally different from the current forecast. If this happens for example on the West Coast of the South Island where serious heavy rain is forecast for the weekend the consequences may be disastrous. Also the first tracks I looked at in the Wellington area are correctly described as steep but are wrongly rates as easy

It gives me new tracks to explore with my two 8&6 year old kids. The distance and difficultly of the track, from beginner to expert, now that's a awesome tool for planning ahead.
