WarmShowers makes multi-day touring affordable and cycle touring dreams come true. It gets a 5☆ rating. However, the app has issues, as does the mobile site. Still, most people... I would guess... are able to make connections with hosts. I did. Best practice - exchange digits ASAP when a confirmation is received.

Warm Showers hosts are great. The app , less so. Performs very badly on weak internet connection. Tries to load massive map before giving access to messages. Fine for cities, not so good in more remote areas. Can't copy text from app ( e.g. to translate ). Full of dead and unresponsive profiles. Terrible search options require you to filter through mounds of junk profiles. Gets worse the more they work on it. Buggy messaging, weird and inconsistent hosting confirmation, buggy email messaging

Update: Just use the desktop version instead of the app. The app pretty much crash all the time. Worst app ever. Love warmshower idea and the hosts and happy to pay for the fee. But very buggy app, I been on the road for a couple month and sometime it works well but slow. But a few time, the host site is down and a few missing messages notification emails. I think the slow thing is the worst, it takes forever to load up the points and the inbox messages.

I appreciate Warmshowers as a resource, but the app is awful. The website is clunky, but works better. Makes it easy to believe the stories about the owner of this platform. Are they pocketing most of the membership fees while hiring bottom-dollar developers? Lots of unforced errors in user interface. Messages double-send. Freezes up and needs to be quit and reopened. Displays "currently offline" despite being connected and using internet on other apps. Etc.

Buggy at best and completely unusable at worst. App frequently crashes or won't load properly. Even when performing normally, the functionality is poor. There are no meaningful filters for hosts when searching on the map. There's no meaningful filter for messages with hosts or guests. Finally, the option to edit a planned stay with hosts never worked. It's a true shame that such a wonderful community has to suffer such a terrible interface. WarmShowers should actually pay a software developer.

Takes a while to load, shows as offline when you open it and if you click on anything before it loads logs you out. Doesn't cache anything (the main purpose of an app). Randomly asks me to login again, and now it won't load profiles. I paid for a year for the convenience of using an app vs the website while on a long tour but it's more frustrating than convenient.

Should be like a dating app, pay to start a conversation free to reply. This way it would be free for hosts but people traveling can pay to find hosts. Also be able to see where hosts are for free to plan trips but pay, one again, to contact them. I have no problem with paying but I'm worried a lot of hosts are leaving, specially in the third world where they only have a phone, no PC and using the website on a phone browser is clunky.

It seems like a complete ripoff to describe Warmshowers as a free service on your website only to charge money through the app.. And only to find out that you can't get a full list of features that you'll "unlock" until AFTER you pay money for it. Between what the website says, what I just experienced with the app, and the numerous 1 star reviews, the app feels more like a scam than anything. Keeping it donation based would've been the better move.
